Attic Fire Displaces Family in Green on Monday Afternoon
A fire in the attic of a Green home Monday displaced several adults, children, and pets. Crews from CDF&R and partner agencies contained the fire in 20 minutes. The likely cause was a discarded cigarette. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.

Crews from Central Douglas Fire & Rescue responded to a residential fire in the 100 block of Pear Tree Lane in Green on Monday afternoon.
According to Division Chief and Fire Marshal Josh Waechter, firefighters were dispatched shortly after 2:30 p.m. to a reported porch fire. The home’s occupants initially attempted to put out the flames using a garden hose.
Upon arrival, crews discovered the fire had extended from the porch into the attic vents, resulting in a working attic fire. Firefighters entered the home, pulled down sections of the ceiling to access the flames, and successfully extinguished the fire within 20 minutes.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, though officials believe it was most likely sparked by a discarded cigarette.
Central Douglas Fire & Rescue responded with two fire apparatus and two command units, staffed by seven paid and volunteer personnel. They were assisted through automatic aid by the Roseburg Fire Department and the Lookingglass Rural Fire District. In total, the response included 16 firefighters, five fire units, and four command vehicles. Pacific Power also responded to assist.
Several adults, children, and numerous pets were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to those affected.
