Christmas Storm 2024 Ravages South Tent Camp in Roseburg and Hits Western Oregon

On the early morning of December 26, 2024, a powerful storm swept across the western part of Oregon, including Roseburg. The storm brought heavy rain, thunder, lightning, and strong winds, causing widespread damage.

The South Tent Camp in Roseburg, one of three city-sanctioned tent camps managed by Elk Island Trading Group, LLC, was particularly affected. The storm's intensity pulled the anchors out of the camp's gathering tent, folding it up against a pole outside, and breaking down most of the support poles for the fence.

This event underscored the importance of resilience in the face of natural disasters. Adhering to the personal motto of "Work to have more positive things than negative by the end of each day!" can be challenging, especially when severe weather strikes early in the day, but it frames the battle ahead.

While the storm caused significant damage, it also provided valuable lessons. The focus now shifts to rebuilding and ensuring more positive outcomes for the camp. Despite the setbacks, the community remains resilient and determined to move forward.

Bernie Woodard, the Operations Manager of Elk Island Trading Group, LLC, replied to the many shares of this information:

"Hi to all! Thanks for reacting to, praying for commenting on, and/or sharing the post. We got about 50% of the perimeter fence support posts dug out with new concrete yesterday and supported the fence with ropes and stakes so we can start putting those back in place tomorrow 12-27-2024. We also got everything picked up and into a new storage tent. Lastly the Gathering Tent was beyond repair so we had to replace it with a new one that is also a 24' x 12' which we have most of the frame together and waiting to put it in place tomorrow and put the covering on it then arrange everything inside. The donated pizza was great for the guys that worked with me Michael, Dozer, Bear, Greg, Joshua, and 3 volunteers that have chosen not to be named. This camp will be much more secure than before the storm as we prepare for higher wind velocity for future events that will come at some point. Thanks again and photos of repairs will follow tomorrow."
