UMPQUA VALLEY TO SEE A MIX OF DRY CONDITIONS, SHOWERS THIS WEEK
KQEN News Radio
The Umpqua Valley will see a mix of dry conditions and showers this week.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that the area should have high temperatures near seasonal norms on Monday and Tuesday. A weak front will bring a slight potential for showers on Tuesday.
Wednesday and Thursday will slowly heat up with an afternoon high in the low to mid 70’s on Wednesday and just over 80 degrees on Thursday. A more significant front is expected to lead to the chance of showers Friday through Sunday. The weekend is forecast to have below normal high temperatures with the mercury reaching only around 60 degrees at the Roseburg Regional Airport.
CITY COUNCIL TO VOTE ON PICKLEBALL COURTS BID AWARD
KQEN News Radio

The Roseburg City Council will vote on awarding the Stewart Park Tennis and Pickleball Court Project to a bidder at its meeting on Monday night.
The idea began to move forward in February of 2023 when the council adopted a resolution supporting the application for an Oregon Parks and Recreation Local Government Grant to provide significant funding for the project. With pickleball considered to be the fastest growing sport in the United States, backers have wanted to see the decades old 11 tennis courts at Stewart Park removed and replaced with 8 new tennis courts and 10 pickleball courts with fencing, lighting, and seating.
The project will allow for increased tournament play in both sports. Umpqua Valley Tennis Center plans on adding around 10 weekend tournaments to their 2026 schedule. These tournaments are projected to include over 1,100 participants traveling from more than 50 miles away.
Funding for the approximately $2.5 million project will come from a state grant of $750,000, nearly $1.1 million dollars raised by the Umpqua Valley Tennis Center, a $160,000 US Tennis Association grant, and from a variety of city funds. Work is expected to begin in late spring and be completed by the end of the year.
Councilors will also vote on authorizing an emergency contract for the permitting, design and bidding services for the replacement of four 72-inch diameter culverts on Parrott Creek at a cost not to exceed nearly $229,000. Staff said the work is needed due to culverts that were severely damaged or collapsed during the March flood event.
Other items are on the agenda as well. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the council chambers on Southeast Douglas Avenue. It can be viewed on the city’s Facebook page or seen later at www.cityofroseburg.org
CITY REMINDS RESIDENTS TO KEEP GRASS/WEEDS TRIMMED
KQEN News Radio

As the growing season kicks into high gear, the City of Roseburg reminds property owners to maintain grass and weeds below 12 inches all year to keep the city and its neighborhoods beautiful.
A city release said under Roseburg Municipal Code, public and private property owners are not allowed to create a public nuisance through excess or obnoxious vegetation on any property. Failure to maintain grass or weeds at the appropriate height could lead to city fines or penalties. The code applies to all property owners, developed properties and cleared lots, but not natural areas of undeveloped parcels in their natural state. Keeping vegetation trimmed also reduces wildfire risk to property.
Under Municipal Code, “obnoxious” vegetation includes weeds, grass or legumes taller than twelve inches; poison oak or poison ivy, vegetation that obstructs vision, vegetation including blackberry vines that extend into the public way, are used for habitation by trespassers, or pose a fire hazard because they are near other combustibles. That doesn’t include agricultural crops that aren’t a fire hazard or vision obstruction, or natural vegetation in areas designated to remain in a natural vegetative state and that don’t pose a fire hazard as determined by the Roseburg fire chief.
