NINE ALREADY RUNNING FOR THREE DOUGLAS COUNTY COMMISSIONER POSITIONS
KQEN News Radio

Nine people are already running for three positions on the Douglas County Board of Commissioners, in the May 2026 Primary Election.
The filing period opened September 11th. Incumbent commissioners Tim Freeman, Chris Boice and Tom Kress all filed for re-election on the first day they could file.
Freeman is being challenged by frequent candidate for office, Brandy Stone who lists her occupation as customer service and sales. A second hopeful is Lorrie Wick, business owner and self-employed consultant for Lorrie Wick Community & Workforce solutions.
Boice is facing Andrew Rosales, who is retired from the U.S. military, and by insurance adjuster Steve Hammerson, who is currently on the Roseburg School District Board of Directors.
Kress’s challengers are Devlan Sorensen, who lists his occupation as blaster, and Nicholas Mitchell whose filing indicates that he is a lead UX and product designer in the banking industry.
Candidates who receive 50 percent of the vote plus one in the primary, automatically are the winner of their race. If no candidate achieves that percentage, the top two candidates face off in the November General Election. The filing period for the primary closes on March 10th.
No one has yet filed for the office of county assessor or county surveyor.

Stuff N' Things Opens in Myrtle Creek with Deep Community History
The Roseburg Receiver

On Saturday, November 29, the community gathered in the Ray’s Shopping Center to celebrate the grand opening of Stuff N' Things, a new antique and vintage treasure shop born from decades of local legacy.
The store is led by Brittany Johnson, whose roots in the antique world run generations deep. Her parents owned the well-known “Winston Now N Then Antique Mall” for 19 years, along with Wilbur Auction for more than 25 years. For Brittany, antiques were not just items on shelves but the stories, memories, and relationships built around them.
“Growing up, I was always around items with history. When my parents closed their store, I didn’t want that sense of community to disappear,” Brittany said during our interview. “Opening Stuff N' Things was a spur-of-the-moment choice, but it felt right. Instead of saying goodbye, I wanted to say hello in a new way.”
She shared that closing the Winston shop was emotional for her family and their long-time customers who had supported them across Oregon and beyond. “We formed relationships with people from everywhere. Saying goodbye was one of the hardest things we’ve ever had to do. This store gives us a way to keep that alive.”
Brittany also expressed deep gratitude for the support surrounding the new chapter. “I couldn’t have done this without the people who followed my parents for so many years. My husband has been a huge support. The community around me has been amazing.”
Stuff N' Things features curated antiques, eclectic finds, vintage decor, photography, and hand-selected items that celebrate the charm of Oregon living. Brittany brings her personal values of honesty, compassion, honor, and respect into every interaction. Her energy, humor, and passion shine through, from her love of coffee to her love of llamas.
Visitors can explore the shop at 875 South Main Street, Myrtle Creek, a few doors down from Ray’s. Brittany is active on social media and invites the community to follow along:

A Night of Light and Community: Douglas County Gathers for the 42nd Annual Courthouse Tree Lighting
The Roseburg Receiver

Some traditions may seem simple at first, but once you are surrounded by families, familiar faces, and that unmistakable sense of hometown warmth, they become something much bigger.
Sunday evening, the Douglas County Courthouse lawn came alive as the community gathered for the 42nd Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. Families bundled up and made their way downtown to share a moment that marks the true start of the season for many.
As the countdown began, “5, 4, 3, 2, 1,” excitement moved across the crowd. When the tree lit up, a cheer rose in unison, filling the courthouse grounds with the sound of celebration. In that moment, it became clear why this tradition continues to matter after more than forty years. It brings people together. It gives the community a place to gather. It reminds everyone that they are part of something larger than themselves.
Parents lifted their kids for a better view. Couples stood close to stay warm. Friends greeted each other with hugs. Some families have been attending for decades, passing the tradition down through generations. For others, it becomes a first memory in a place they are learning to call home.
These small but powerful moments, the glow of the courthouse, the warmth of the crowd, and the shared countdown, are what continue to tie Douglas County together year after year.
From all of us at The Roseburg Plug and The Roseburg Receiver, we wish you a safe, warm, and joyful holiday season. Thank you for supporting and shopping local.
