CITY OF MYRTLE CREEK PLANNING FOR FUTURE SUCCESS

KQEN News Radio

The City of Myrtle Creek has announced a community driven revitalization effort aimed at developing a long-term vision and strategic success plan for the city.

City Administrator Lonnie Rainville said, “We are seeking input from residents, business and landowners as well as embarking on a first impressions element that involves other municipalities working together for a greater good”. Rainville said the Lotus Media Group will be assisting with research, promotion and facilitation.

A city release said the initiative has adopted the name Imagine Myrtle Creek as a project theme. The first order of business is to conduct research through listening to citizens, business and landowners as well as researching the city’s current brand reputation on-line, and through other information gathering activities using the foundational work from the University of New Hampshire’s First Impressions program.

Myrtle Creek Mayor Matthew Hald said, “There will be ample opportunities for all residents, business owners and landowners to not only contribute but take an active role in helping Myrtle Creek realize the potential of this wonderful town”. Hald said, “As they say, ‘It takes a Village’ and we are asking our entire community to unite so we can build a real plan for success”.

Myrtle Creek is in southern Douglas County with a current population of 3,500 residents, which includes the Tri-City area.

Myrtle Creek City Administrator Lonnie Rainville and Mayor Matthew Hald will talk about Imagine Myrtle Creek on Inside Douglas County Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. on News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN

WILDLIFE SAFARI INTRODUCES NEW MALE GIRAFFE, WATSON

KQEN News Radio

Wildlife Safari has announced that Watson, a two-year old male giraffe, recently arrived from Fort Worth, Texas.

A safari release said Watson is currently settling into his new home and is gradually being introduced to the rest of the giraffe herd; Konza, Jact, Raza and Margie.

Wildlife Safari’s primary giraffe trainer Liv Nicks-Turnley said she is excited about Watson’s progress. Nicks-Turnley said, “He’s setting in very nicely. He’s becoming more and more curious by the day, and introductions between him and the rest of the tower have been nice and smooth. He loves his lettuce and is doing fabulous during his training sessions. Watson is definitely our smallest giraffe now, but big in our hearts”.

Public Relations Manager Taylor Holeman said as Watson continues to acclimate to his new soundings, guests will soon have the opportunity to see him interacting with fellow giraffes. Holeman said his arrival marks an exciting addition to Wildlife Safari’s giraffe conservation efforts, allowing visitors to learn more about these gentle giants and their importance to the wild.

The release said Giraffes are the tallest land animals on Earth, yet their populations are declining in the wild due to habitat loss and poaching. Holeman said by welcoming Watson, Wildlife Safari continues its mission to inspire awareness and educate the public on the importance of these incredible animals.

Visitors can follow Watson’s journey on the park’s social media channels and plan a visit to see him in person.
