APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTED FOR OPEN CITY COUNCIL POSITION
KQEN News Radio

The City of Roseburg is accepting applications for an open seat on the city council.
A city release said this is for the Ward 1, Position 1, vacancy created by the recent resignation of Councilor Kylee Rummel. The person appointed to fill the seat will serve out the rest of the term, which concludes at the end of 2026.
The Roseburg City Council meets at 7:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, as well as for special meetings. The council is responsible for the scope, direction and financing of city services as well as establishing land use policies and zoning regulations.
The council establishes local law and policy that is administered and implemented by city staff under the council-city manager form of government. The council gives policy direction to the city manager, who’s responsible for administering city operations. In setting policy, the council works closely with citizen-advisory commissions and committees, considers city staff information and recommendations, and takes input from interested parties and the public. Councilors review material to prepare for the meetings and speak and correspond with ward constituents. Councilors also attend other meetings and may chair a city commission.
The council will conduct interviews for a new councilor at a public meeting and appoint a replacement. Online applications can be found at: www.cityofroseburg.org. The application deadline is 5:00 p.m. on March 28th. Candidates must live in Ward 1, which takes in much of northeast Roseburg.

DCSO AWARDED LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY ACCREDITATION
KQEN News Radio

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has officially received its voluntary law enforcement agency accreditation from the Northwest Accreditation Alliance.
On Wednesday, during a ceremony at the Douglas County Board of Commissioners weekly meeting, Sheriff John Hanlin and Undersheriff Brad O’Dell were presented with the accreditation credentials by NWAA Executive Director Scott Hayes and Commissioner Tim Freeman.
A county release said this accreditation marks a significant milestone in the agency’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards in law enforcement and public safety. The accreditation process involved a thorough evaluation of DCSO’s operations, policies, and practices to ensure that they meet the rigorous requirements set by the NWAA. It recognizes DCSO for its dedication to professionalism, accountability and continuous improvement.
At the meeting Sheriff John Hanlin said, “This accreditation is a direct reflection of the hard work, dedication, and commitment of our team”. Hanlin said, “I want to extend my deepest thanks to the outstanding members of our agency who worked tirelessly to make this possible”.
Special recognition was given to the accreditation team, which played a vital role in this process. Hanlin specifically thanked Undersheriff Brad O’Dell, Lieutenant Clayton Ruble, and retired captain Dwes Hutson for their leadership and dedication through the accreditation process.
The release said the Northwest Accreditation Alliance is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to establishing professional standards and accreditation for law enforcement agencies across the Pacific Northwest. This distinction demonstrates DCSO’s dedication to operational excellence, and the safety and well-being of the community it serves.
