5TH WHEEL A TOTAL LOSS FOLLOWING POWER OUTAGE RELATED FIRE
KQEN News Radio

A 5th wheel is a total loss following a power outage related fire on Monday.
An update from Central Douglas Fire & Rescue said just after 12:30 p.m. crews were dispatched to a power pole transformer blown from a downed tree. Battalion Chief Nick Wecks said firefighters responded and found that a 5th wheel trailer was now on fire.
Wecks said a tree had fallen through power lines onto the trailer. The first arriving engine reported a fully involved travel trailer with multiple structures threatened. Heavy winds were reported, along with additional hazards from overhead power lines.
Wecks said an efficient response contained the fire to the 5th wheel and prevented it from spreading to multiple exposures. The 5th wheel suffered significant damage and is uninhabitable. No injuries were reported by the resident or firefighters working at the scene.
CDF&R responded to the incident with three fire engines and one command unit, totaling eight personnel. The Winston Police Department, Umpqua Valley Ambulance, Pacific Power and the American Red Cross assisted crews and the resident at the scene.
