SENATOR MERKLEY CALLS CASINO APPROVAL HIGHLY DAMAGING

KQEN News Radio

Oregon’s U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley is critical of a federal move regarding a casino that has been proposed by the Coquille Tribe.

In comments provided to News Radio 9-39 FM and 1240 KQEN, Merkley said, “The Biden administration’s approval of the Coquille Indian Tribe’s Medford casino is highly damaging”. Merkley said, “it sets in motion a competition that pits Tribe against Tribe and endangers a special framework Oregon has supported for Tribal casinos. I will be working with my colleagues, including Senator Wyden, to explore pathways to block or even reverse this wrongheaded action”.

The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians is one of over 60 Tribal nations that have consistently opposed the proposal.

ZONTA’S DOUBLE DONATION DRIVE IS UNDERWAY

KQEN News Radio

The Zonta Club of Roseburg has its Double Donation Drive underway.

Residents are asked to clean out their closet and donate their clean, lightly used clothes. This year clothing can be dropped off at Cardinal Services on Northwest Stewart Parkway, and at the Roseburg Public Library on Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard.
Sunrise Enterprises will make a nominal donation to Zonta for the clean clothes. In turn, Sunrise will benefit by having a larger selection of clothing for their retail services and continuing their goal of providing jobs and community support for those with disabilities. Therefore, it is a double donation, from those giving, to both Zonta and Sunrise.

The collection will continue through the end of February. Only clothing will be accepted. Shoes, purses and household goods will not.
