MANUFACTURED HOME RECEIVES EXTENSIVE DAMAGE IN FIRE TUESDAY NIGHT

KQEN News Radio

A manufactured home in Winston received extensive damage in a fire Tuesday night.

A release from Central Douglas Fire & Rescue said crews were dispatched just before 6:10 p.m.to the residence off Brosi Orchard Road. Battalion Chief Nick Wecks said the caller arrived home and found flames as she came up the driveway, so called 911. Wecks said initial crews on scene reported a working fire, began fire attack and established command.

Crews achieved a quick knockdown and had the second-arriving engine conduct a primary search. All occupants and their dog were outside the home when the initial crew arrived. No injuries were reported.

RESIDENTIAL LEAF PICKUP IS UNDERWAY IN ROSEBURG

KQEN News Radio

Roseburg Public Works is offering leaf collection for homeowners through the end of the year.

A city release said crews are providing this service for residents inside the city limits. Public Works staff follow a cyclical, systematic route to help residents with leaf disposal and to ensure the collection is provided in an effective, cost controlled program that helps keep leaves out of storm drains, creeks and rivers.

Weekday pickups move in a clockwise direction, starting in the Laurelwood neighborhood, going to the West Harvard Avenue area, and ending in the Mill-Pine Historic District. Each cycle through Roseburg’s neighborhoods takes about a month, depending on the quantities of leaves picked up. The route is repeated throughout the roughly two-month program. Residents can see pickup route updates on the Public Works Department leaf pickup webpage: https://www.cityofroseburg.org/departments/public-works/leaf-program

Residents must pile leaves neatly on the edge of their property or on the street in front of their property and away from the curb prior to the pickup.

Those who want leaves delivered can contact the Public Works Department at: pwd@roseburgor.gov or by calling 492-6730.

TWO LOCAL GROUPS AMONG 355 ARTS ORGANIZATIONS RECEIVING GRANT AWARDS

KQEN News Radio

Two local organizations: Umpqua Valley Association and Riverbend Live! are among 355 arts organizations that are sharing over $1.7 million in grants awards through the Oregon Arts Commission’s Sustaining Arts Program for the fiscal year 2026.

An OAC release said in 2025, the commission reimagined this grant program to provide a more equitable distribution of funds to arts organizations. Awards are based on a newly updated formula that considers an organization’s annual expenses, number of applications and available grant funds. Grant awards range from $1,000 to $20,000 and these unrestricted funds are available to nonprofit arts organizations that offer public arts programs throughout the year.

Umpqua Valley Arts is getting $5,916 while Riverbend Live! is receiving $2,368.

The Oregon Arts Commission is supported with general funds appropriated by the Oregon State Legislature and with federal funds from the National Endowment for the Arts as well as funds from the Oregon Cultural Trust. More information is available online at: http://www.artscommission.oregon.gov/
