CITY OF REEDSPORT WITH PLANNED WATER OUTAGE TUESDAY

KQEN News Radio

A contractor working for the City of Reedsport is completing additional work on water lines and hydrants in the community. A planned water outage is taking place Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Clearlake Avenue between 6th Street and 8th Street in Winchester Bay.

A city release said the work is needed to continue making improvements to the city’s water system. For questions, call city staff at 541-271-3603.

ODOT WORKING TO TURN ON NEW OREGON 42 TRAFFIC SIGNAL THIS WEEK

KQEN News Radio

Staff with the Oregon Department of Transportation said if all goes well, the new Oregon 42 traffic signal at Rolling Hills Road in Green will be up and running as early as Wednesday night.

Dan Latham of ODOT said highway travelers should watch for lane closures through the early part of the week as workers attach mast arms and signal heads to the poles. Latham said new traffic signs will be posted throughout the area.

An ODOT release said once the signal is turned on, local drivers are advised to watch for pedestrians and use caution at the intersection. The new signal provides push-button crosswalks at all four sides of the intersection. It may take a few days for everyone to adjust to the new traffic pattern.

The signal is part of a $11.97 million project that will repave 4.5 miles of highway, install several safety features, add streetlights and a pair of right-turn lanes, and replace ADA sidewalk curb ramps at more than a dozen intersections.

Latham said over the next few weeks, contractors for ODOT will install concrete barrier and raised traffic separators along the center median of Oregon 42 from Carnes Road to Rolling Hills Road. Latham said these features will help improve safety by restricting left-turn movements along the corridor, which have been a factor in many crashes.

The turn restrictions will mostly affect residents in neighborhoods along the westbound side of the highway, near Landers Avenue and Melody Lane. Drivers in these areas will be able to use new U-turn facilities on Oregon 42 at Carnes Road and Rolling Hills Road to change direction.

The release said prime contractor Rocky Mountain Construction LLC of Klamath Falls began work in February and completed all sidewalk construction and paved one mile of highway. The new right-turn lanes have been completed at Landers Avenue and Rolling Hills Road, and guardrail has been installed.

Latham said the contractor has until September of next year to pave the rest of the project area and complete all other work.

TICKETS SELLING FAST FOR “HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS”

KQEN News Radio

Tickets are selling fast for the Umpqua Actors Community Theater’s production of, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”.

A synopsis said everyone has seen those Christmas movies where everything seems to go wrong. When relatives come from near and far, getting together for a holiday dinner that blows up into a conflagration of jabs, insults, and until then kept under wraps family secret, or some major announcement is made to the group, causing a cacophony of gasps from guests.  The stress of family members getting together with those they haven’t seen for awhile and have likely chosen not to for some reason despite being related, definitely adds angst to an already stressful situation. Even though these cinematic situations are largely exaggerated, the fact that everyone has experienced holidays or some sort of similar family event like these, surely speaks to their popularity.

Tickets are available for performances on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from December 4th through December 20th at 7:00 p.m. Admission is $17 for adults and $12 for those ages 12 and under. To purchase tickets, call 673-2125 or go to: https://www.uact-theatre.com/have-yourself-a-crazy-little-christmas
