Oregon man arrested after baby hospitalized with broken bones, brain bleeds
An Oregon man was arrested after a six-week-old baby was hospitalized with serious injuries. Doctors found signs of ongoing abuse. Gage Dubuc, 24, of Myrtle Creek, faces felony child abuse charges and is being extradited to Shasta County.

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. — A Myrtle Creek man has been arrested following a months-long investigation into the suspected abuse of a six-week-old baby, the Shasta County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday.
The investigation began on December 26, 2024, when the infant was admitted to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, California, with difficulty breathing. Medical staff discovered the child had sustained multiple critical injuries, including fractured ribs, a fractured tibia, and bleeding in the brain. Due to the severity of the injuries, the infant was transferred to UC Davis Medical Center for specialized treatment.
Doctors at UC Davis identified new brain bleeds and rib fractures in varying stages of healing. Additionally, both tibias were found to be fractured in a pattern consistent with twisting. Medical professionals concluded the injuries resulted from non-accidental, ongoing trauma, prompting serious concerns of child abuse.
The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit identified 24-year-old Gage Dubuc of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, as the primary suspect. Based on extensive medical evaluations and witness interviews, the case was submitted to the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office. A felony arrest warrant was issued for child abuse causing great bodily injury.
Dubuc was apprehended in Oregon by the Myrtle Creek Police Department and is currently being held at the Douglas County Jail. Authorities said he will be extradited to the Shasta County Jail, where his bail has been set at $100,000.
The investigation remains ongoing.
