Structure Fire in Sutherlin: Shed Destroyed, Dog Perishes

A structure fire broke out on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, in the 900 Block of Buttercup Lane, Sutherlin. The Sutherlin Fire Department was dispatched at 12:54 PM and arrived on the scene approximately six minutes later to find a small shed engulfed in flames. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire and overhauled the structure, while also checking for any fire extension in a nearby secondary structure. Sadly, one dog perished in the fire.
The Sutherlin Fire Department responded with one fire engine, one water tender, and two brush rigs, deploying a total of eight firefighters. They received automatic aid from the Fair Oaks Fire District, Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, Oakland Fire District, and Umpqua Valley Ambulance.
Fortunately, there were no injuries to firefighters or civilians. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
