The City of Roseburg Fire Department, Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, and Cow Creek Tribal Fire Management will conduct wildland fire training exercises on Reservoir Hill on June 23, 25, and 27, 2025. Live burns will occur daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with firefighters remaining on site afterward for cleanup.
The training will take place on property owned by the City of Roseburg, the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians, and private landowners. Live burns will be conducted on three separate portions of the hillside to support various training scenarios. In preparation, small controlled burns are scheduled for June 18 to help protect nearby homes and City assets before larger exercises begin.
Training objectives include refresher courses on wildland firefighting tactics, command and control drills for multi-unit responses, and fuel reduction efforts to lower the risk of future uncontrolled fires. This collaborative training enhances interagency cooperation, strengthens coordinated response capabilities, and improves overall emergency preparedness.
The City of Roseburg Fire Department extends its gratitude to Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, Cow Creek Tribal Fire Management, and the City of Roseburg Police Department for their support and assistance throughout the training operation.
Public safety remains the top priority during these exercises. The public and photographers are asked to avoid the training area. Drone operations are strictly prohibited over the burn site to ensure safety and prevent interference with firefighting operations.
Media interested in interviews may contact Staff Assistant Amy Rice at 541-492-6727 or arice@roseburgorg.gov to schedule time with a Public Information Officer at the site.
