DFPA INCREASES RESTRICTIONS TO HIGH, IFPL TO LEVEL 2

Effective Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 12:01 am, the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) will increase Industrial Fire Precaution Levels (IFPL) to Level 2 across all lands under its protection, including those managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Concurrently, Public Use Restrictions (PURs) will escalate to HIGH for private, county, state, and Bureau of Indian Affairs lands within the Douglas District.

What Does IFPL Level 2 Mean for Industry?

Under IFPL Level 2, the use of fire or power-driven machinery is heavily regulated to reduce wildfire risks. Specifically, the following activities are limited to operation only between 8:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.:

  • Power saws (with exceptions at loading sites)
  • Feller-bunchers with rotary head saws
  • Cable yarding operations
  • Blasting activities
  • Welding, cutting, or grinding of metal

Modifications or waivers to these restrictions can be authorized by the State Forester or their representative.

Implications for the Public

Non-industrial activities, including the use of power saws, metal cutting or grinding, trimming or mowing dried grass, and using power-driven machinery for property improvements, are permitted only before 10 AM or after 8 PM.

DFPA also emphasizes that fireworks are strictly prohibited in wildland areas during fire season. Violators face citations and potential liability for fire suppression costs and damages.

Residents are urged to exercise caution and celebrate responsibly to prevent wildfires.
