First Shipment of Wreaths Arrives for the John Pierson Memorial Wreaths Across America Event - Event on Saturday

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. — The first delivery of veteran’s wreaths for the John Pierson Memorial Wreaths Across America Event has officially arrived in Douglas County, marking the beginning of a deeply meaningful annual tradition honoring local heroes laid to rest at Roseburg National Cemetery.

Thanks to the generous support of Bruce Hanna and Timber Country Coca-Cola, the wreaths will be stored safely until Saturday morning. At that time, Timber Country Coca-Cola will deliver all 7,000 wreaths simultaneously to both Roseburg National Cemetery locations, ensuring that every participating grave receives a wreath during this year’s remembrance ceremony.

County Commissioners Chris Boice and Tim Freeman, along with local Wreaths Across America co-location coordinator Shelley Johnson, Bruce Hanna, and Timber Country Coca-Cola employee Lonnie Griggs, were on-site to receive the shipment from Peninsula Trucking as the first truck rolled in.

“Thank you, Timber Country Coca-Cola, for your support,” organizers said, a sentiment shared widely across the community each year as volunteers and local partners help make this massive effort possible.

About Wreaths Across America

Wreaths Across America began in 2007 as a national nonprofit mission to Remember, Honor, and Teach, remembering our fallen veterans, honoring those who serve, and teaching future generations about the value of freedom. What started as a small initiative in Maine has grown into a nationwide movement, with more than 3,700 participating locations in 2024.

Each December, volunteers across the country place wreaths on the graves of veterans as a way to ensure their service is never forgotten. Roseburg National Cemetery is one of those honored locations.

Honoring John Pierson

Douglas County’s ceremony is dedicated to the memory of John Pierson, a beloved local veteran and long-time advocate for honoring service members. The memorial dedication recognizes his years of commitment to ensuring that Douglas County veterans were remembered with dignity. His passion and leadership helped elevate the local Wreaths Across America effort into one of the strongest in the region.

The annual ceremony now bears his name as a tribute to his legacy and service to both his country and his community.
