Food for Hope Project Led by H.O.P.E. Drug Court Graduate Supports FISH Food Pantry

ROSEBURG, Ore. — A Douglas County drug court graduate is giving back to the community through a two-day food drive aimed at replenishing shelves at the FISH Food Pantry following the high-demand winter season.

The Food for Hope Community Project is being led by Elizabeth Weist-Gray, a graduate-phase participant in the H.O.P.E. Drug Court program. The food drive will take place Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7–8, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in front of Grocery Outlet, where Weist-Gray will be onsite collecting donations and sharing a list of most-needed items.

All donated food and household supplies will go directly to the FISH Food Pantry, which has served Douglas County residents for decades. The pantry provides emergency food assistance to thousands of households each year, including seniors on fixed incomes, families with children, veterans, and individuals experiencing temporary hardship. Demand for food assistance remains consistently high during winter months, when pantry shelves are often at their lowest.

Weist-Gray’s project is part of the H.O.P.E. Drug Court’s required Graduate Community Project, a final-phase component designed to emphasize accountability, service, and meaningful reintegration into the community. Participants are expected to demonstrate personal growth by contributing to organizations that strengthen quality of life across Douglas County.

H.O.P.E. Drug Court operates under the Douglas County Circuit Court and focuses on reducing recidivism by addressing substance use disorders through treatment, supervision, and long-term behavioral change. The program emphasizes recovery, responsibility, and forward-looking life decisions beyond the justice system.

The Douglas County H.O.P.E. Drug Court is scheduled to celebrate its 112th graduation on March 31 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, where graduate projects — including Food for Hope — will be recognized as part of the ceremony.

Community members are encouraged to stop by the donation site, contribute if able, and support local hunger-relief efforts. More information about the FISH Food Pantry is available at fishofroseburg.org.
