NWS: Heavy Rain, Mountain Snow, and Wind Expected Across the Pacific Northwest

A series of storms will bring moderate to heavy rain, mountain snow, and gusty winds to the Pacific Northwest from Friday through Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters say the event will be a multi-day system, with the heaviest rainfall expected along and near the coast. Higher elevation snow—mainly above 5,000 feet—is also likely, while lower elevations will see periods of steady rain and breezy conditions.

Beach hazards will increase through the weekend, making conditions along the Oregon coast especially dangerous. Officials urge residents and visitors to use extreme caution near the surf and avoid jetties, rocks, and logs.

While rainfall totals may be impressive, the NWS emphasizes that heavy rain does not automatically mean flooding, particularly at this time of year when rivers remain low after summer. However, nuisance flooding and ponding on roads are possible, so drivers are encouraged to slow down and use caution in wet conditions.

The National Weather Service also reminds the public to rely on official forecasts and be cautious about weather information shared on social media.

“It’s important to get your weather information from trusted official sources like the National Weather Service,” the agency said. “It’s very easy for out-of-context or misleading information to spread online.”
