Lookingglass Brewery Co-owner Mark Nunnelee started the business in 2015, officially beginning production in October of that year. By 2016, Mark and his wife Lydia Nunnelee had leased 1,000 square feet of their current building on Main Street and, in 2017, purchased the full 4,000 square foot property. The growing brewery expanded into the entire building in 2019, kicking off a series of remodeling efforts.
For Nunnelee, brewing was a second career. He spent over 23 years working for NASA at Edwards Air Force Base in California as operations manager over a team of mechanics and technicians. His work included designing test and flight components, and he was awarded two patents during his tenure. After moving to Roseburg in 2008, Nunnelee took a position as assistant district manager for the Bureau of Land Management. He retired about a year and a half later, completing a 25-year civil service career.
Nunnelee describes Lookingglass Brewery as being well-equipped with a long list of state-of-the-art brewing equipment, located in a prime commercial space. He notes that it is the only brewery between Roseburg and Grants Pass. The business and property are listed for sale at $1.9 million, which includes the company and the full commercial space.
