DOUGLAS COUNTY MORNING NEWS
Five Years in a Row: Sunrise Enterprises Recognized as Best Secondhand Store in Douglas County

For the fifth consecutive year, Sunrise Enterprises has been voted Best Secondhand Store in Douglas County for the Readers' Choice Awards, a recognition that reflects far more than retail success.
The recognition is shared with the community that makes the work possible. Every purchase, donation, volunteer hour, and partnership helps support a mission that has been changing lives for more than five decades.
Founded in 1969, Sunrise Enterprises has long served as a place of opportunity and belonging, providing meaningful employment and support for individuals of all abilities. The organization is committed to helping people build independence, confidence, and fulfilling lives through work that matters.
While many in the community know Sunrise for its secondhand stores, the organization’s impact extends well beyond retail. Through wood products, janitorial services, and community employment partnerships, Sunrise Enterprises works directly with local businesses to create real job opportunities and pathways to long-term success.
Those partnerships are a critical part of the mission. Local employers have stepped forward to provide inclusive employment opportunities, while others support the organization by utilizing Sunrise’s services. Together, they form a network built on trust, inclusion, and shared responsibility.
This fifth consecutive Best Secondhand Store award stands as a reminder of what is possible when a community rallies around a purpose. Sunrise Enterprises is not just a store. It is a mission in motion, powered by Douglas County.
Community members interested in supporting or partnering with Sunrise Enterprises are encouraged to get involved and learn more about how they can be part of the organization’s life-changing work.
ROSEBURG HAS NEAR RECORD HIGH FOR THE DATE ON TUESDAY

Roseburg had a near record high temperature for the date on Tuesday.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that the mercury reached 63 degrees at the Roseburg Regional Airport. The record high for February 3rd is 64 degrees, set in 2018.
With a front allowing temperatures to stay well above seasonal norms this week, forecasters said the Umpqua Valley could again approach near record high temperatures for the date, with the most likely day being on Thursday when the record high is 67 degrees, set in 1941. The forecast is calling for the high that day to be around 65 degrees.
A pretty good chance of rain is expected by Saturday night, leading to a wet Sunday, with the potential for Roseburg to receive up to two thirds of an inch of rain over the weekend.
INGRAM CONTENT GROUP TO EXPAND ROSEBURG FACILITY

Ingram Content Group has announced a major investment in its Roseburg distribution center through the addition of a state-of-the-art co-located printing facility.
An Ingram release said this investment expands the number of titles Ingram has available from Roseburg by millions and reduces delivery times for customers west of the Rockies. Publishers, booksellers, and librarians will all benefit from the added speed, scale and flexibility.
The Roseburg expansion joins similar Ingram facilities in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, the UK and Australia. The addition to the Ingram network represents the next strategic step in expanding capacity, increasing speeds to market and enhancing service for customers everywhere.
Ingram Content Group CEO Shawn Morin said, “As demand for our print, wholesale, and distribution services grows, extending our unique solution to our Roseburg facility allows us to serve our publishers and channel partners with greater efficiency, immediacy, and flexibility”. Morin said, “Through expanding our print on demand programs like print to order and guaranteed availability, in Roseburg, we’re strengthening our ability to more quickly connect western U.S. readers with the books they want”.
Construction on the Roseburg expansion begins immediately, with first book printings anticipated by the end of the third quarter.
The release said once complete, the enhanced Roseburg facility will significantly increase the availability of millions of titles in this market, enabling faster delivery for retail and library customers. For publishers, the expansion provides a sustainable, integrated solution that improves availability, reduces waste and accelerates speed to the market.
Ingram opened its distribution warehouse in Roseburg in October of 1994.
SUTHERLIN WITH INFORMATION ON CHANGING TIMES FOR COUNCIL MEETINGS

Officials with the City of Sutherlin have provided information regarding the decision to change the time of city council meetings.
Mayor Michelle Sumner said the change comes after hearing from residents that evening meetings are not always conducive to broad participation. Sumner said a morning meeting offers several benefits to the community. That includes:
- Greater accessibility for students: Student leadership classes will now be able to attend and observe local government in action
- Improved safety and comfort: Residents who prefer not to drive at night will now have the opportunity to participate.
- Reduced hardship for working families: Many families have shared that attending a meeting after a full workday – often staying out until 8:30 p.m. can be difficult.
- Potential for increased turnout: Current attendance is low, and the hope is that the new time will encourage more residents to engage with their local government.
The next Sutherlin City Council meeting will be on February 9th at 10:00 a.m. with the Urban Renewal Agency meeting at 9:45 a.m.

FOOD FOR HOPE PROJECT SUPPORTS FISH FOOD PANTRY

A H.O.P.E. Drug Court graduate-phase participant is giving back to the community through the Food for Hope Community Project this weekend.
A Douglas County Circuit Court release said it will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in front of the Roseburg Grocery Outlet in the 700 block of Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard.
Elizabeth Weist-Gray will be onsite with a table and donation barrel, along with a list of most-needed items, inviting community members to help replenish the Fish Food Pantry, following the high-demand holiday season. All donated food and supplies will go directly to support local individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.
The Fish Food Pantry has served Douglas County for decades, providing emergency food assistance to residents in need. As one of the areas’ key hunger-relief organizations, FISH supports thousands of households each year, including seniors on fixed incomes, families with children, veterans, and individuals facing temporary hardship. Demand for food assistance in Douglas County remains consistently high, particularly during the winter months.
Projects like Food for Hope help ensure that local food pantries can continue meeting community needs when shelves are often at their lowest.
The program also reflects the mission of the H.O.P.E. Drug Court, which emphasizes accountability, recovery and community engagement. By giving back through service, participants strengthen their connection to the community while supporting organizations that improve the quality of life across Douglas County.
The Douglas County H.O.P.E. Drug Court program is preparing to celebrate its 112th graduation on Tuesday, March 31st at 5:15 p.m. in the Cascade Hall Building at the fairgrounds.

FREE MENTAL HEALTH DOCUMENTARY SCREENING COMING TO ROSEBURG

A free public screening of the documentary HERE. IS. BETTER. will take place on Saturday, March 21st starting at 12:00 p.m. at the Roseburg Public Library on Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard.
A release said the event is presented by the Returning Veterans Project, with local support from The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians and Source One Serenity.
HERE.IS.BETTER is a full-length documentary that intimately follows four veterans from diverse backgrounds as they engage in evidence-based trauma psychotherapies for post-traumatic stress disorder. The film offers rare access to veterans’ personal healing journeys, including the often overlook voices of women veterans and those living with trauma for decades.
Following the screening, a panel discussion will be moderated by Amy Almond-Schmid, executive director of the Returning Veterans Project. The discussion will focus on access to care, community support, and evidence-based treatment options for veterans and their families.
The free event is open to veterans, family members, service providers, and community members.
