Roseburg Forest Products to Cut Jobs at Riddle Mill as Production Shifts to Support Engineered Wood Operations

Roseburg Forest Products announced Wednesday it is realigning production at two Oregon facilities, a move that will shift specialty plywood manufacturing to Coquille and reduce staffing at its Riddle mill by about 146 positions.
Company officials said the change is part of a broader strategy to modernize operations and strengthen its long-term position in engineered wood and specialty plywood markets.
Under the plan, veneer production has been expanded at the company’s Riddle Plywood facility to better support its nearby engineered wood plant, which produces laminated veneer lumber (LVL) and I-joist products. Meanwhile, upgrades at the Coquille Plywood facility have positioned that site to become Roseburg’s primary specialty plywood operation.
As a result, specialty plywood production that was previously split between the two mills will be consolidated in Coquille. The Riddle facility will continue producing plywood sheathing and underlayment but will reduce its workforce beginning Feb. 4.
Company leaders said affected employees will receive 60 days of pay and continued health coverage. Workers are also being encouraged to apply for open positions at other Roseburg facilities, with transition support and resources being offered.
Roseburg President and CEO Stuart Gray said the decision was not made lightly but is intended to improve how raw materials move through the company’s core product lines and help maintain long-term competitiveness.
The production shift follows several years of major capital investments across the company’s Western operations. Since 2023, Roseburg has invested hundreds of millions of dollars to modernize mills and focus on product segments expected to drive future growth, including engineered wood, specialty plywood, medium-density fiberboard, and lumber.
Founded in 1936, Roseburg Forest Products is one of the country’s largest private forest landowners and a major employer in Douglas County. The company operates manufacturing facilities across multiple states and manages timberlands in Oregon and the Southeast.
DINT Arrest: Man Jailed on Drug and Weapons Charges in Myrtle Creek

Detectives with the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team arrested a 62-year-old man late Tuesday night, Feb. 3, on multiple drug and weapons charges after contacting him in a vehicle along Booth Ranch Road, authorities said.
Investigators said detectives located William Pease parked in the 1400 block of Booth Ranch Road and suspected he was in the area to distribute a large quantity of methamphetamine. With assistance from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, detectives contacted Pease while he was inside the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle and surrounding area reportedly led to the discovery of approximately 98 grams (about 3.4 ounces) of suspected methamphetamine. Detectives also reported finding a concealed firearm inside the vehicle. Authorities said Pease is a convicted felon, which makes it illegal for him to possess firearms.
Pease was detained without incident and lodged at the Douglas County Jail on the following charges:
- Driving While Suspended (misdemeanor)
- Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine
- Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine
- Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
- Tampering with Evidence

FRESH START PROJECT SUPPORTS OXFORD HOUSE THROUGH H.O.P.E. DRUG COURT CAR WASH

A H.O.P.E. Drug Court graduate-phase participant is giving back through the Fresh Start Project, hosting a community carwash to raise funds for local Oxford Housing, a vital resource for individuals who are rebuilding their lives in recovery.
A Douglas County Circuit Court release said the carwash will take place on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Abby’s Legendary Pizza in the 1600 block of Northeast Stephens Street in Roseburg. The event is donation-based with no set fee.
Funds raised will be used to purchase essential household and personal items for individuals newly accepted into Oxford Houses, including bathroom towels, shower supplies, shower caddies, house slippers and other basic necessities for day-to-day living.
The release said Oxford House plays a critical role in the recovery process and works closely with the H.O.P.E. Drug Court program. It is often the first table housing option available to participants transitioning out of treatment or custody.
Along with the carwash, another option is to donate cans and bottles. H.O.P.E. Drug Court Participant Jack Salberg is also coordinating this effort. Call 817-7494 or drop off donations at the Oxford House Nebo at 263 Southeast Mosher Avenue. Cans and bottles are being accepted through March 4th.
