WETTEST DAY IN MARCH IN ROSEBURG HISTORY

Sunday was the wettest day in March ever for Roseburg.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that the Roseburg Regional Airport measured 3.47 inches of precipitation. The previous record rain for a day in March was 2.29 inches, set on March 12th, 2012.
It was also the wettest March 16th in history. The previous record was 0.87 inches of rain which was measured in 1932.
As of Sunday, the airport has measured 6.92 inches of rain for the month. That makes it the third wettest March in history, with the month just over half complete. The wettest March was in 2012, when 8.65 inches of rain was recorded.
The record for one-day precipitation in Roseburg was 4.35 inches recorded on November 19th in 1996.
COUNTY FLOODING EVENT UPDATE

It was a day that will be remembered for years in Douglas County.
Sunday brought flooding, mudslides, road closures, people trapped, evacuations and more.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said the county experienced extensive flooding affecting various areas.
Undersheriff Brad O’Dell said as water levels fluctuate, residents are urged to use heightened caution. O’Dell said certain areas may still experience high water levels for some time. Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution and prioritize safety while driving.
Residents who feel it is unsafe to remain in their homes should not wait for a notice to evacuate and should relocate to shelter with family or friends outside of the affected area.
Any resident experiencing a need for assistance is asked to contact Douglas County Emergency Communications at 440-4471.
O’Dell said Sheriff John Hanlin and the Douglas County Commissioners will continue to provide leadership during the emergency response and subsequent recovery working hand in hand with municipal and community partners.
CLOSURES AND DELAYS FOR DOUGLAS COUNTY

Due to flooding and related weather issues, there are a number of closures for Monday.
School closures:
- Roseburg School District. All evening activities canceled as well
- Sutherlin School District
- Winston-Dillard School District
- South Umpqua School District
- Oakland School District
- North Douglas School District
- Riddle School District
- Days Creek Charter School
- Yoncalla School District
- Glendale School District. School will be held on Friday to make up for the closure.
- UCAN Head Start: classes are closed for South Umpqua, Winston, Sutherlin HS and Sutherlin EHS
- Elkton School District
- Glendale School District
FLOOD WARNINGS FOR DOUGLAS COUNTY

The National Weather Service has a number of Flood Warnings in place for Douglas County as of early Monday morning.
- South Umpqua River at Roseburg and the South Umpqua near Winston – Minor flooding is forecast
- Umpqua River near Elkton – Moderate flooding is forecast
- Elk Creek near Drain – Moderate flooding is forecast
- Cow Creek near Riddle -Minor flooding is occurring
- Deer Creek at Roseburg – Moderate flooding is forecast
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY THROUGH 10:00 A.M. MONDAY ABOVE 1,500 FEET

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 10:00 a.m. Monday for central Douglas County above 1,500 feet.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service said periods of wet snow are expected above 1,500 feet. Total snow accumulations up to 3 inches above 1,500 feet are forecast. There is a 50 percent chance of snow on the valley floors.
Drivers should plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute.

ROSEBURG CITY COUNCIL EXECUTIVE SESSION MONDAY NIGHT

Members of the Roseburg City Council will meet in Executive Session Monday evening, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
A city release said the purpose of the meeting is to consult with counsel concerning the legal rights and duties of a public body with regard to current litigation or litigation likely to be filed.
Executive Sessions are not open to the public. Anyone who needs more information should contact City Recorder Amy Nytes by calling 492-6866 no later than 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
DOUGLAS C.A.R.E.S. TO HOST ANNUAL HEROES DAY EVENT

Douglas C.A.R.E.S. will host their annual Heroes Day in recognition of April’s Child Abuse Prevention Month.
A release said Douglas C.A.R.E.S. has been providing a safe space for children in Douglas County enduring abuse and neglect to share their stories for 30 years.
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the non-profit would like to take the opportunity to show children that there are heroes in this community who are dedicated to preventing child abuse and providing resources to families affected by it.
Douglas C.A.R.E.S recently moved into a brand-new building with tons of room for big, indoor activities. The new location at 1939 Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard provides a safe dry place for fun in April.
The Heroes Day event will be held on Friday, April 4th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. It will include dinner, games and prizes, family activities and giveaways.

LUNCHBOX EXPRESS TO DELIVER FREE MEALS OVER SPRING BREAK

The Roseburg School District will distribute free meals to children and youth over the spring break, via the LunchBox Express bus.
Meals will be distributed March 24th through 28th. The meals are available to all children ages 1 to 18. Each sack will contain breakfast and a lunch meal. Children must be present to participate. Only one breakfast and one lunch are available per day, per child.
LunchBox Express delivery sites and times are:
- Faith Lutheran Church on West Kenwood Street from 11:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
- Green Elementary School on Carnes Road from 11:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
- Eastwood Park on Southeast Douglas Avenue from 12:00 p.m. to 12:15 p.m.
- Creekside Family Church on Newton Creek Road from 12:45 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Saddle Butte Mobile Manor on Saddle Butte Lane from 1:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

48TH ANNUAL SPRING FAIR COMING LATER IN MARCH

The 48th annual Spring Fair is returning to the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Friday through Sunday March 28th through 30th.
Considered to be southern Oregon’s premiere craft event held in celebration of the Vernal Equinox, the Spring Fair brings together local and regional artisans, crafters and entertainers for the annual festival. Over 120 booths offer fairgoers a unique opportunity to view and purchase hard to find hand crafted treasures. Other booth offerings include henna body art, massage and herb and plant products.
Two live stages will showcase music, dance, magic, vaudeville, and much more. The main stage will feature performances from The Sunny Sky Boys, Kudana Marimba Band, Wildlife Safari, the Barbara Healy Quartet, piano man Toby Bates and more. The café stage, located next to the InnerSpace Family Kitchen offers a venue where local and traveling musicians and entertainers play for their supper and the pleasure of Spring Fair diners.
Spring Fair is presented by InnerSpace Family, a volunteer group of artisans. The fair will be Friday the 28th from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday the 29th from 10:00 a.m. 8;00 p.m. and Sunday the 30th from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-12 and seniors over age 65. Musicians with instruments and clowns in make-up are admitted for free.

St. Patrick’s Day Potato Bingo Event Set for Washington School in Oakland

Get ready for a festive evening of fun, food, and music at the St. Patrick’s Day Potato Bingo, hosted at the Washington School/Community Center in Oakland. The event will take place upstairs at Oakland City Hall, 637 Locust St., with ADA-accessible elevator access available on the side of the building (follow the signs) from 5:30 - 9 PM.
Attendees can enjoy a delicious baked potato with fixings for just $5 while playing Bingo and listening to classic Irish music performed by the Oakland Singers. The event, organized by the Oakland Community Resource Team (OCRT), is a volunteer-driven effort aimed at bringing the community together in celebration.
OCRT, an all-volunteer nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, extends a huge thank you to all the dedicated volunteers who make events like this possible.
