ROSEBURG, Ore. — A large-scale emergency response training exercise is scheduled to take place in downtown Roseburg on Monday, Feb. 10, involving the Roseburg Fire Department and multiple partner agencies.

The drill will simulate a hazardous materials incident involving a train car and is designed to test coordination between local, state, and regional responders. Agencies participating include Douglas County Emergency Management and other emergency response partners from across the region.

Officials say residents and visitors may notice a visible emergency response presence during the exercise, including fire apparatus, law enforcement vehicles, personnel in protective gear, and simulated response operations in the downtown area.

Authorities emphasize that this is only a training exercise and that there is no real emergency or hazardous materials threat to the public.

The purpose of the exercise is to provide realistic, hands-on training for first responders in a controlled environment and to strengthen coordination between agencies in the event of a complex incident involving hazardous materials and multiple jurisdictions.

Community members are asked to remain aware of the scheduled drill and avoid the immediate training area if possible. Officials also request that the public not call 9-1-1 about the simulated activity unless there is an actual emergency.

The Roseburg Fire Department says these exercises are an important part of maintaining readiness and ensuring responders are prepared to protect the community during real incidents.
