LINCOLN COUNTY, Ore. Drivers traveling north or toward the central Oregon coast should be aware of a long term road closure on Oregon Route 229 in Lincoln County that may impact travel plans.

A large landslide has closed OR 229 between mileposts 14 and 15 near Kernville and Siletz. The slide removed part of the roadway, making the highway unsafe for travel and forcing a complete closure of the route.
Transportation officials say there is no nearby detour available. Motorists are urged to avoid the area entirely and plan alternate routes, especially those traveling north from Douglas County or heading toward coastal destinations.
Crews are currently assessing the stability of the slope and the extent of the damage. At this time, there is no estimated timeline for repairs or reopening of the highway.
