Umpqua National Forest Issues Emergency Closure for Emigrant Fire
Umpqua NF has issued an emergency closure for the Emigrant Fire, effective Sept. 4–Nov. 25. Several trails, campgrounds & roads are closed, while others remain open. Fire danger is HIGH with PURs & IFPL at Level 2. Full details: fs.usda.gov/r06/umpqua/alerts

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. — September 4, 2025
The Umpqua National Forest has announced an emergency closure order for areas impacted by the Emigrant Fire, which was first reported August 24 on the neighboring Willamette National Forest. The order, issued for public and firefighter safety, is effective September 4 through November 25, 2025, unless modified or lifted sooner.
Areas Closed
The closure includes several recreation sites, trailheads, and National Forest Service Roads (NFSR), such as:
- Upper Lemolo Falls Trail #1476 and Trailhead
- Skipper Lakes Trailhead
- Cinder Prairie Trailhead
- Bulldog Rock Trailhead
- Lemolo #2 Forebay Forest Camp Campground
- Lemolo Lake Dam Trailhead
- NFSR 4775 (Medicine Creek)
- NFSR 3402 (Thorn Mountain Road)
- NFSR 2154 (Timpanogas Road)
- NFSR 2610 (Lemolo Lake/Birds Point Road)
Areas Remaining Open
Some recreation opportunities are unaffected by the closure, including:
- Inlet Campground
- East Lemolo Campground
- Poole Creek Campground
- Bunker Hill Campground
- Lower Lemolo Falls Trail #1468 and Trailhead
- Toketee Lake Campground
- Toketee Falls Trail and Trailhead
- NFSR 3401 (road to Umpqua Hot Springs)
Safety & Fire Restrictions
The Umpqua National Forest currently lists fire danger as high. Public Use Restrictions (PURs) and the Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) remain at Level 2.
Visitors are reminded to practice campfire safety. Even fires in designated fire rings must be completely extinguished before leaving a site—campfires should be drowned, stirred, and cold to the touch.
