The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is asking the public for help in investigating the death of an endangered gray wolf in Morrow County last month.

On November 8, a male gray wolf, identified as OR 159 and fitted with a radio collar, was discovered dead on private property roughly 20 miles south of Heppner, according to a press release from the agency. Morrow County lies west of Highway 395, an area where gray wolves are protected under the federal Endangered Species Act.

A reward of $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest, conviction, or civil penalty related to the wolf’s death.

The Oregon State Police are collaborating on the investigation. Anyone with information can contact the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at (503) 682-6131, Oregon State Police dispatch at (800) 452-7888, or email TIP@osp.oregon.gov. The agency assures that tips can be provided anonymously.
