Arrest Made After Firearm Video Surfaces at Yoncalla High School
A student was arrested after a video on social media showed a firearm brought onto Yoncalla High School grounds. Authorities say there was no active threat, and Principal Chelsea Ross urged students to report safety concerns, calling communication critical. The investigation remains ongoing.

YONCALLA — A student was arrested after a video circulating on social media showed a firearm was brought onto the Yoncalla High School campus, according to a letter sent to students and families on Thursday.
Principal Chelsea Ross said she became aware of the video around 10 a.m. and immediately contacted the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, which began an investigation. Authorities determined the student or students involved were not on campus at the time of the report, and there was no active threat to students or staff.
“The safety and well-being of our students remains our highest priority,” Ross wrote in the letter. “Yoncalla High School will continue to work closely with the sheriff’s office to ensure a secure learning environment for everyone.”
Ross also addressed what she described as a “cultural concern” among students about reporting each other, emphasizing that it is critical for students to speak up when safety is at risk.
“In situations where safety is at risk, it is absolutely critical that students speak up,” she wrote. “We ask for your help in encouraging open communication and responsible action.”
The school declined to share additional details, citing student confidentiality laws and the ongoing investigation.
