Douglas County Declares State of Emergency Amid Severe Winter Storm Impacts
Douglas County declared a State of Emergency due to severe winter storm impacts. Flooding, road closures, mudslides, and debris continue affecting many areas. The Red Cross offers on-call shelter services, and residents can call 211 for flood-related assistance.

The Douglas County Commissioners have declared a State of Emergency for the entire county following the extreme conditions caused by a severe winter storm. The declaration, made on Sunday, cites the extreme peril to life, property, and public safety as a result of widespread storm damage.
According to a county release, the emergency declaration empowers authorities to take extraordinary measures to protect residents, property, and public health. This includes accessing emergency funds and coordinating resources for a rapid response and recovery effort. A copy of the declaration can be found here.
Despite some receding floodwaters, many areas of the county remain heavily impacted. Residents continue to face high water levels, road closures, detours, mudslides, debris, downed trees, falling rocks, and damaged roadways. In areas with steep terrain, the risk of mudslides and rockfalls remains elevated for an undetermined period.
While several temporary shelters have now closed, the American Red Cross is providing shelter services on an on-call basis at the Drain Church of Christ. Residents in need of shelter can contact the Red Cross – Southwest Oregon Chapter at 541-344-5244.
For assistance with insurance claims, flood damage, resources, or housing, residents are encouraged to call the 211 information line. Additional details on available services can be found here.
