Douglas County Proclaims Nurse Appreciation Week, Honoring Local Heroes
Douglas County proclaimed June 1–8 as Nurse Appreciation Week, honoring the dedication of local nurses. Aviva Health nurses joined a celebration at the county building, with thanks to Commissioners Freeman, Kress, and Boice for recognizing their vital role in the community.

ROSEBURG, Ore. — Nurses across Douglas County received well-deserved recognition this week as the Douglas County Board of Commissioners officially proclaimed June 1–8, 2025, as Nurse Appreciation Week.

A group of Aviva Health nurses, accompanied by a cheering squad of supporters, visited the Douglas County Government Building to celebrate the proclamation and the vital role nurses play in the community.
The proclamation—signed by Commissioners Tim Freeman, Tom Kress, and Chris Boice - honors the dedication, resilience, and compassion of local nurses who serve in hospitals, clinics, care homes, and public health programs throughout the region.
“Nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system,” the commissioners stated in the proclamation. “Their ability to adapt to any situation, provide critical support, and care for patients with dignity and compassion is invaluable.”
Douglas County is home to approximately 1,487 RNs, LPNs, Nurse Practitioners, and Certified Nursing Assistants. The county also benefits from a strong local training pipeline through Umpqua Community College’s Registered Nursing Program, which has graduated more than 2,100 nurses since its inception in 1973.
The proclamation also acknowledges the significant partnership between nurses, hospitals, and clinics in delivering high-quality care and meeting the diverse needs of the county’s residents.
Aviva Health expressed deep gratitude to the commissioners for their recognition and ongoing support. "A heartfelt thank you to Commissioners Tim Freeman, Tom Kress, and Chris Boice for honoring the compassionate care our nurses and nurses across Douglas County provide to friends, families, and neighbors throughout the community.”
As Nurse Appreciation Week continues, residents are encouraged to thank the nurses in their lives and show support for the people who give so much to care for others.
