Douglas County Search and Rescue Locates Two Missing Men

ROSEBURG, Ore. — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team located two missing men in separate incidents over the past several days, with help from community members and volunteers.

According to DCSO, 61-year-old Darwin Trimnell of Myrtle Creek was reported missing Thursday evening, October 30, after failing to return to his hunting party around 9:00 p.m. Deputies responded to the Jackson Creek and South Umpqua Road area in southern Douglas County and initiated a search. Search and Rescue crews resumed operations Friday morning and located Trimnell in good health.

In a separate incident, on Sunday, November 2, around 5:00 p.m., authorities received information about a man reportedly stranded in the woods for four days. The individual was later identified as 72-year-old Darrell Graham of Eugene.

A local couple exploring the area located Graham and, after driving several miles to regain cell service, contacted his family and a tow company to relay his location. Graham’s family was able to reach him without issue, but the tow company could not and subsequently called DCSO for assistance.

By the time deputies arrived in the China Saddle area of the Umpqua National Forest, Graham had already been safely towed several miles to the main road by the couple and was meeting with his family to arrange for vehicle recovery.

The Sheriff’s Office acknowledged the collaboration between Search and Rescue volunteers, deputies, and helpful community members, emphasizing the shared commitment to public safety in Douglas County’s rugged backcountry.
