Heat Lamp Blamed for Dixonville House Fire; Kitten Rescued

Firefighters responded to a house fire Tuesday morning on Buckhorn Road in Dixonville. Flames were coming from several windows, and one kitten was rescued. The blaze started from a heat lamp used to warm baby chickens, officials said. No injuries were reported.

At approximately 10:40 a.m. on October 7, 2025, Central Douglas Fire & Rescue responded to a reported structure fire in the 1000 block of Buckhorn Road in Dixonville.

When firefighters arrived, they found a single-story home with flames coming from several windows and smoke venting from the eaves. Crews launched an offensive attack and performed a primary search of the residence. The occupants were not home at the time, but firefighters rescued a kitten from inside the structure.

Investigators determined the fire originated from a heat lamp used to warm baby chickens.

Central Douglas Fire & Rescue responded with three engines, one water tender, and one command vehicle, with mutual aid from the Roseburg Fire Department, Glide Fire Department, DFPA, Umpqua Valley Ambulance, Avista, and Pacific Power.

Fire officials are reminding residents to secure and monitor heat sources like lamps and space heaters, keeping them clear of flammable materials to reduce the risk of accidental fires.
