I-5 Southbound Closure at Exit 99 - ODOT

When snow levels are predicted at 1,000 feet or below, with expected snow accumulation exceeding one inch on Sexton Pass, a chain-up is required at Canyonville. Maintenance personnel will handle necessary field deployment for long-term I-5 closures at Canyonville. Portable message signs and procedures depend on the expected size and duration of the closure or restrictions.

Procedures:

  1. Message Signs:
    • Deploy southbound message signs at MP 105 and MP 128 with appropriate information.
Example: "PCMS: I-5 CLOSED X Miles Ahead."
  2. Coordination with Station 3:
    • Request Station 3 to activate the I-5 SB Permanent Variable Message Signs (Eugene) if the closure will exceed two hours.
  3. Road Work Ahead Signs:
    • Place "Road Work Ahead" signs at MP 102.
    • Update signage to "Left Lane Closed" and activate flashing beacons on those signs where applicable.
    • Close the left lane before the MP 100 curve and later close the right lane at Exit 99 for I-5 SB.
  4. Maintenance and Enforcement Personnel:
    • Ensure maintenance, motor carrier, and OSP incident response personnel are stationed at Exit 99.
    • Ramp lifting motorists will require updated information regarding the closure.
    • Provide further updates through the ODOT call system at "511", selecting the "Theoretical Chain-Up/Traction Tire Information" option.
  5. Ramp Closures:
    • Close ramps at MP 99, 98, 95, 88, 86, 83, and 81 with signs and cones.
    • Utilize gates where applicable (e.g., MP 99 and 88).
  6. Message Boards:
    • Turn on the message board at the Barton Road Exit to inform drivers: "I-5 SB Closed at Exit 80 Glendale Interchange."
  7. Additional Personnel:
    • Deploy additional personnel at the Traffic Control Tent at Exit 80, Glendale Interchange.
    • Law enforcement officers (OSP, DCSO, or JCSO) will be on-site, depending on availability.
