I-5 Southbound Closure at Exit 99 - ODOT
When snow levels are predicted at 1,000 feet or below, with expected snow accumulation exceeding one inch on Sexton Pass, a chain-up is required at Canyonville. Maintenance personnel will handle necessary field deployment for long-term I-5 closures at Canyonville. Portable message signs and procedures depend on the expected size and duration of the closure or restrictions.
Procedures:
- Message Signs:
- Deploy southbound message signs at MP 105 and MP 128 with appropriate information.
Example: "PCMS: I-5 CLOSED X Miles Ahead."
- Deploy southbound message signs at MP 105 and MP 128 with appropriate information.
- Coordination with Station 3:
- Request Station 3 to activate the I-5 SB Permanent Variable Message Signs (Eugene) if the closure will exceed two hours.
- Road Work Ahead Signs:
- Place "Road Work Ahead" signs at MP 102.
- Update signage to "Left Lane Closed" and activate flashing beacons on those signs where applicable.
- Close the left lane before the MP 100 curve and later close the right lane at Exit 99 for I-5 SB.
- Maintenance and Enforcement Personnel:
- Ensure maintenance, motor carrier, and OSP incident response personnel are stationed at Exit 99.
- Ramp lifting motorists will require updated information regarding the closure.
- Provide further updates through the ODOT call system at "511", selecting the "Theoretical Chain-Up/Traction Tire Information" option.
- Ramp Closures:
- Close ramps at MP 99, 98, 95, 88, 86, 83, and 81 with signs and cones.
- Utilize gates where applicable (e.g., MP 99 and 88).
- Message Boards:
- Turn on the message board at the Barton Road Exit to inform drivers: "I-5 SB Closed at Exit 80 Glendale Interchange."
- Additional Personnel:
- Deploy additional personnel at the Traffic Control Tent at Exit 80, Glendale Interchange.
- Law enforcement officers (OSP, DCSO, or JCSO) will be on-site, depending on availability.
