LOOKINGGLASS, Ore. — The Lookingglass Rural Fire District (LRFD) has announced the opening of two generous scholarships for individuals committed to public service and pursuing a career in fire science. Each scholarship, valued at nearly $16,000, will cover tuition, fees, books, and lab costs for a two-year Fire Science program.
Scholarship Details:
- Scholarship #1: $15,998
- Scholarship #2: $15,989
These opportunities are designed to support the educational goals of LRFD volunteers while investing in the future of the fire service community.
Eligibility:
Applicants must be active LRFD volunteers in good standing, maintain a minimum GPA of 2.4, and commit to both academic success and continued service. No failing grades will be accepted.

- A 500-word essay on “The Importance of Volunteer Fire Districts in Rural Communities”
- A cover letter with contact information

Deadlines & Selection:

- Interviews: Week of October 7, 2025
- Final selections announced: October 31, 2025
If there are not enough qualified applicants, one of the scholarships may be held and awarded at a later date.
