Man Arrested After Escaping From Douglas County Courthouse

ROSEBURG, Ore. — Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Tuesday morning after he allegedly fled the courthouse following a judge’s order to take him into custody.

According to a sheriff’s office report issued Wednesday night, 38-year-old Jesse Dewbre was in court on Southeast Douglas Avenue at about 8:45 a.m. when the judge remanded him into custody on a felony case. As the court bailiff was approaching the courtroom, Dewbre reportedly ran out of the courthouse and got into a vehicle with another person. The pair then drove toward Dewbre’s residence.

Deputies later found Dewbre outside his home, where he allegedly ran inside. After deputies spoke with him through a bathroom door, he surrendered without further incident.

Dewbre was booked on charges of second-degree escape and a multiple-count warrant. His bail was set at $100,000.

Undersheriff Brad O’Dell clarified that Dewbre had not yet been placed in sheriff’s office custody at the time of the incident. The escape charge, he said, stems from the judge’s decision to remand Dewbre into custody during the court proceeding.
