ROSEBURG, Ore. — A Roseburg man was arrested Wednesday after police reported he stole a loaded firearm from a vehicle in the parking lot of Waldron’s Outdoor Sports and was later found inside a tent on a walking bridge with the firearm recovered nearby.

Roseburg police said officers responded at about 3:50 p.m. on Jan. 21 to 450 NE Stephens St. regarding a report that a male suspect had taken a loaded firearm from a truck in the parking lot.

Employees reportedly told officers the suspect went toward an area known as “The Point” after the theft and was last seen wearing neon green shorts.

Police said officers contacted multiple people at The Point, who reportedly advised the suspect had headed toward the walking bridge near the intersection of NE Diamond Lake Boulevard and NE Stephens Street.

Officers reviewed video from Waldron’s and reported they recognized the suspect as Alan Daniel Hubschman, 34, of Roseburg.

Police said Hubschman was located inside a tent on the walking bridge and detained without incident. Officers reported his neon green shorts were found inside the tent, and the stolen firearm was located underneath them.

Police also reported they learned Hubschman fired the firearm near the train trestle on NE Rowe Avenue and located a fired shell casing.

During transport to the Douglas County jail, police said Hubschman attempted to spit on an officer after exiting the backseat.

Hubschman was arrested in connection with the incident and was lodged at Douglas County Corrections.
