Man Dies in Camas Valley House Fire

A house fire on Holmes Creek Road Wednesday night claimed the life of 76-year-old Richard Wayne Bemiller, who was unable to escape. Despite rescue attempts, firefighters found him deceased. The Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.

Man Dies in Camas Valley House Fire

A tragic house fire in Camas Valley claimed the life of a local resident Wednesday evening.

On March 5, 2025, shortly before 9:30 p.m., 9-1-1 dispatchers received reports of a house fire in the 300-block of Holmes Creek Road. Callers indicated that a resident, who was confined to a wheelchair, was still inside the burning home. Despite multiple attempts by witnesses to rescue him, they were unable to get him out.

Firefighters from multiple local departments, along with Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies, responded to the scene. Two individuals were evaluated for injuries sustained during the incident. Upon searching the home, firefighters located the victim, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities have identified the victim as 76-year-old Richard Wayne Bemiller of Camas Valley.

The Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the fire. At this time, the cause of the fire remains undetermined, and no further updates are expected from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
