ROSEBURG HIGH NEARLY 10 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL ON WEDNESDAY
KQEN News Radio

The high temperature in Roseburg was nearly 10 degrees above normal on Wednesday.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that the mercury reached 71 degrees at the Roseburg Regional Airport. The normal high temperature for April 9th is 62 degrees. The sunny conditions were still well below the record high for the date. That was 83 degrees, set in 1959.
The Umpqua Valley will see another day of above normal temperatures Thursday when a high of 72 degrees is expected.
FLOOD DAMAGE SOLID WASTE VOUCHER PROGRAM WINDING DOWN
KQEN News Radio

In the wake of the March 2025 flood emergency, the Douglas County Solid Waste Department in partnership with the Douglas County Emergency Management Department launched a Flood Damage Solid Waste Voucher Program to assist residents in the disposal of flood-related debris and refuse.
A county release said the goal was to provide immediate, short-term relief to individuals affected by the flood, while ensuring the county remains in compliance with Oregon Department of Environmental Quality permits and preserves eligibility for potential state and federal disaster funding. Resources were adjusted to increase the number of days and hours the transfer sites were open in the most heavily impacted areas.
As the county moves from the emergency response phase to the recovery stage, this initiative will be winding down. Residents who plan to utilize the voucher offered are encouraged to seek approval by April 23rd and dispose of flood-related waste before May 31st. The voucher is linked: Flood-Damage-Voucher-Request-Form-PDF
All transfer sites and the landfill will return to normal operating hours on April 23rd. Submit request forms to the Solid Waste Department in room 308 at the courthouse, or via email: soldwasteweb@douglascountyor.gov. Vouchers must be approved and signed by the Solid Waste Director before use.
Flood-related wood waste may be dropped off at any transfer site free of charge, provided it is reasonably clean and for individual use only.
COMMITTEE MOVES FORWARD WITH REPEALING OREGON’S WILDFIRE MAPS
KQEN News Radio

State senators David Brock Smith and Noah Robinson, along with Senate and House Republican leadership legislative colleagues, David Hunnicutt of Oregon Property Owners Association, and others have successfully advanced legislation to repeal wildfire maps and associated mandates imposed on rural property owners by SB 762, which passed four years ago.
Robinson said, “The repeal of wildfire maps and associated regulations is an urgent matter”. Robinson said, “Many Oregonians fear they will not be able to afford to continue living in their homes with these fire maps and regulations. I am delighted with this first step and look forward to supporting SB 83 on the Senate floor”.
A joint release said both senators have been working with legislative colleagues, stakeholders, and others on this urgent issue for many months. Brock Smith drafted competing legislation against SB 762 during the 2021 Legislative Session that would have repealed the wildfire maps created by SB 762, however Senate Natural Resource and Wildfire Committee Chair Jeff Golden refused to hold a hearing and move the bill, so it died in his committee.
Brock Smith said, “Today is a good day for rural Oregonians”. Brock Smith said, “With SB 83 passing out of committee, we are one step closer to reversing the devastating impacts of SB 762’s wildfire maps that we have been trying to overturn for years”. Brock Smith said he is grateful to the thousands of residents that brought the pressure needed to move this forward and to his colleagues for their support of these efforts for rural residents.
House and Senate Republicans have also put forward wildfire maps repeal legislation in HB 3944.

CENTRAL DOUGLAS FIRE & RESCUE HYDRANT FLUSHING/TESTING
KQEN News Radio

Division Chief and Fire Marshal Josh Waechter said this includes the communities of Dixonville, Green, Melrose, Winchester, Wilbur, Winston, Garden Valley, Umpqua and unincorporated areas near the City of Roseburg. During this process, water discoloration is possible depending on how bad the sediment on the water mains is, but water is still safe to drink. Residents who experience issues with their water during this time should allow water to run through the faucet until it clears.
Those who have any questions or want more information about fire hydrant flushing and testing, should contact Central Douglas Fire & Rescue at 673-5503.
