SUICIDE PREVENTION RESOURCES OFFER SUPPORT THROUGH ADAPT
KQEN News Radio

Seeing a large increase in suicides in the local community recently, staff with Adapt Integrated Health Care are providing resources.
An Adapt release said suicide is a serious public health issue that affects individuals, families and entire communities. 988, the national Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, provides free confidential support 24/7 to anyone in distress. Additionally, Adapt offers a local crisis team to provide immediate help and ongoing support to those in need.
Adapt Crisis Program Director Cheryl McDonald said, “Asking for help when you’re struggling, depressed or having thoughts of suicide means gathering courage, setting aside fear of judgement and trusting that someone else can help”. McDonald said, “It also takes courage to be a supportive and caring listener to someone who is thinking of suicide”.
In addition to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, Adapt offers comprehensive local crisis support for individuals experiencing mental health distress. Services include:
- 24-Hour Crisis Line
- Mental Health Evaluation and Intervention
- Treatment Determination
- Referral to Mental Health Services and Community Resources
For more information on suicide prevention resources that are available from Adapt, go to: https://adaptoregon.org/news/news/suicide-prevention-resources-available/
Adapt Crisis Team Case Manager Doug Walton will be on Inside Douglas County Tuesday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. on News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN to talk more about the issue of suicide and the help that is available.

MERKLEY ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL TOWN HALLS
KQEN News Radio

Senator Jeff Merkley has announced that he will hold 11 more town halls for Oregonians in mid-April.
A release said Merley will be joined by Representative Val Hoyle for three of the events on Oregon’s south coast, including the town hall for Douglas County. That event will be held on Tuesday, April 15th at 5:00 p.m. at the main gymnasium of the Reedsport Community Center. Town halls earlier that day will take place in North Bend and Brookings.
Town halls will also be held:
- April 12th in Hermiston, La Grande, and Joseph
- April 13th in Baker City, Ontario, and Burns
- April 14th in Lakeview and Klamath Falls
Merkley said, “There is nothing like holding town halls directly in communities where Oregonians live and work to get to the heart of the ideas, issues, and priorities that matter most to them. That’s why I hold a town hall for every Oregon county, every year”.
Since taking office in 2009, Senator Merkley has held an open town hall for each of Oregon’s 36 counties every year. His town hall on Saturday in Union County will mark his 600th town hall.
BLM REOPENS ROGUE RIVER TRAIL AFTER LANDSLIDE
KQEN News Radio

The Bureau of Land Management has reopened the Rogue River National Recreation Trail after crews created a path around a large landslide.
A BLM release said wildland firefighters from BLM’s Veteran Crew 10, along with BLM recreation staff, were able to clear the landslide and re-route the trail around a large boulder. The crews also removed several downed trees and addressed other issues along the first few miles of the trail.
The trail is rated as difficult due to its remote nature, tall cliffs, the potential for downed trees, landslides and high water in creeks. Hikers may still encounter smaller landslides, unstable footing, erosion of trail tread, and other storm-related impacts along the trail. Those who find damage on BLM lands are asked to report it to the Medford District Office at 541-618-2200.
Grants Pass Field Manager Justin Kelly said, “The Rogue River Trail is beautiful this time of year, and we worked hard to open it as quickly as possible”.
The release said the Rogue River National Recreation Trail traverses the wild section of the Lower Rogue National Wild and Scene River along its entire length. Stretching 40 miles between Grave Creek and Big Bend, the trail offers come of southwestern Oregon’s most amazing landscapes and rewarding hiking experiences.
