UMPQUA VALLEY TO SEE HIGH TEMPERATURES ABOUT 10 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL
KQEN News Radio

The Umpqua Valley will see high temperatures about 10 degrees above normal on Wednesday and Thursday.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that afternoon highs in the lower 70s are expected. The normal high temperatures for this time in May are between 61 and 63 degrees. While two dry days are forecast, some rain will return to the region by late Thursday, though it will likely be short lived. The long-range forecast is calling for dryer weather through at least Easter weekend.
HOUSE REPUBLICANS CONDEMN ADVANCEMENT OF GUN BILLS
KQEN News Radio

On Tuesday, Oregon House Republicans condemned the passage of two bills out of the House Judiciary Committee that they believe significantly reduce the rights of law-abiding citizens to bear arms, while doing nothing to reduce crime and uphold public safety.
A release from Oregon House Republicans claims that:
*House Bill 3075 will make it harder to lawfully obtain a firearm by increasing the firearm permit provisions in Ballot Measure 114, including adding additional eligibility requirements, fees, and doubling the wait time to issue permits to 60 days
*House Bill 3076 directs the Justice Department to create a state licensure program, adding additional unnecessary oversight to an industry the GOP said already follows extensive federal regulations, including background checks, ATF licensing, and strict compliance laws
Representative Alek Skarlatos of Winston said, “These bills are an absurd attempt to target law-abiding Oregon gunowners”. Skarlatos said, “They will ban standard size magazines, impose fees on the exercise of a constitutional right, and place prohibitive regulations on every local gunsmith and gun store, forcing these small businesses to close”.

AVIVA HEALTH LAUNCHES ADVANCED PRACTICE PROVIDER RESIDENCY
KQEN News Radio

Aviva Health has launched its Rural Oregon Advanced Practice Residency Program.
An Aviva release said it is a 13-month training program designed to support newly graduated family nurse practitioners and physician associates as they transition into clinical practices in rural settings. Interviews are currently underway to select the first cohort of two residents, who will begin in early September.
The program includes four days per week of direct clinical practice under the guidance of experienced providers, with a focus on managing health conditions common in rural communities. It includes specialty rotations in pediatrics, behavioral health, women’s health, and dermatology, as well as dedicated time for classroom learning, small group sessions and clinical skills development.
Aviva Health CEO KC Bolton said “Launching this residency program just makes sense. New providers get real-world experience with the support they need, and our patients get high-quality care from clinicians who are learning how to practice medicine the right way – in the places that need it most”. Bolton said, “Plus if we do this well, maybe they’ll stick around and fall in love with Douglas County like the rest of us. We’re not just growing talent; we are planting seeds to build our community’s capacity.”
Each resident will also participate in a team-based quality improvement project aligned with organization goals, gaining experience in data-driven decision-making and population health management.
The release said the APP Residence Program builds on Aviva Health’s ongoing efforts to recruit, train and retain healthcare providers in Douglas County. Since 2020, Aviva Health has operated the Roseburg Family Medicine Residency Program, which prepares physicians for rural primary care.
