HOT WEATHER CONTINUES, SEASONAL NORMS START WEDNESDAY
KQEN News Radio

While the Heat Advisory expired Sunday night, two more days of hot weather is expected in the Umpqua Valley before conditions return to seasonal norms starting Wednesday.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that the mercury reached 100 degrees at the Roseburg Regional Airport on Sunday. That beat the previous record high for the date, which was 99 degrees, set in 2010.
Roseburg also set a record high for the date on Saturday and tied the record high for the date on Friday, giving the Umpqua Valley three days of triple digit high temperatures with the mercury getting to 101, 102 and 100 degrees respectively for Friday through Sunday.
Roseburg should have high temperatures in the mid 90’s Monday and Tuesday. Highs will drop to the mid-80s beginning Wednesday and remain there for several days.
COOLING CENTER REMAINS OPEN THROUGH TUESDAY, SUPPLIES NEEDED
KQEN News Radio

While the hot weather continues, a Cooling Resource Center remains open on Monday and Tuesday afternoons to help those in need escape the heat.
Operated by the Schlueter-Greenwalt Foundation, it is being held at Saint George Episcopal Church on Southeast Cass Avenue in downtown Roseburg.
Jacob Schlueter said over 180 people were assisted between Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Schlueter said that means the shelter is now out of a number of items and needs additional help from the community.
The shelter is seeking water, fruit, chips, cookies, soft fruit bars, string cheese, mini muffins and popsicles. Items can be dropped off at the church after 1:00 p.m. The center will be open from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
For more information, contact Schlueter at 701-630-2669 or email: jacob.schlueter@gmail.com
ROSEBURG CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER AIRPORT IMPROVEMENTS, PARKING ISSUES
KQEN News Radio

The Roseburg City Council will consider improvements at the airport, parking enforcement and other topics at its meeting Monday night.
The council will vote on authorizing acceptance of a grant offer from the Federal Aviation Administration in the maximum amount of $500,000 to be used towards the airport fencing and security upgrades project. Later in the agenda, councilors will vote awarding that project to Priority One Fence for just under 280,000.
The council will take another look at the downtown parking situation and will review what it would be like without parking enforcement both downtown and in the Laurelwood neighborhood. Staff are seeking directions from the council on the next steps on the issue.
Other items are on the agenda as well. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the city council chambers on Southeast Douglas Avenue. It can be viewed on the city’s Facebook page or seen later through a link at www.cityofroseburg.org
ROSEBURG PUBLIC LIBRARY REQUESTS READER INPUT
KQEN News Radio

Roseburg Public Library is asking patrons to share ideas for collection development as staff dedicate additional resources to purchase digital materials and large-print books.
A city release said the deadline for feedback is Saturday, September 13th via an online survey.
The first set of questions focuses on digital materials.
The library realized a 21.7 percent growth in digital materials circulation in fiscal year 2025, versus fiscal year 2024. Library Director Kris Wiley said much of that change is because the library added online magazines on the Libby app.
Wiley said there was a 13.7 percent increase in digital audiobooks use last year, with patrons checking out more than 19,000 items. Digital book use was status quo with 15,350 checkouts.
Wiley currently purchases additional copies of digital books when there are five holds on a title. Library staff are asking patrons if they would like that threshold lowered so more money is spent on the current bestsellers and hottest books? Or would patrons prefer the library to offer a broader collection.
The second set of survey questions focuses on large-print materials in physical format. The release said library staff are seeking input on that topic as well.
Go to the library’s website: www.roseburgpubliclibrary.org and click on “Collection Survey” to answer a brief list of questions.

TICKETS AVAILABLE FOR IN A LANDSCAPE CONCERT
KQEN News Radio

IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild has a concert at the Millpond Recreation Site on Tuesday, September 9th, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The event will commemorate the anniversary of the 2020 Archie Creek Fire. That fire swept over 125,000 acres in Douglas County, destroying 154 homes. On the site of an old logging mill pond along Rock Creek, the grassy field is surrounded by a scorched forest.
Attendees will get an up-close look at the relationship between fires and forest health, in the heart of Oregon’s logging country.
Thanks to IN A LANDSCAPE Roseburg Friends, the concert is a benefit to two local non-profit organizations – Forest Bridges and the Family Development Center.
For the 10th season, IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild is touring the American west. Mountain tops, old-growth forests and sunny meadows replace the traditional concert hall in the series featuring pianist Hunter Noack on a 9-foot Steinway grand piano.
Tickets are $45 a person. Purchase them and get more information at: IN A LANDSCAPE: Millpond Recreation Site on Rock Creek – Millpond Recreation Site – September 9th 2025 | Afton Tickets

CLAIRE'S IN ROSEBURG TO CLOSE ON AUGUST 26
The Roseburg Receiver

Claire’s in Roseburg, located at 780 NW Garden Valley Boulevard, Suite 100, will officially close its doors on August 26, 2025. The store has been a longtime stop for jewelry, hair accessories, toys, and ear piercing services, making it a nostalgic landmark for many in the community.
The closure comes as part of Claire’s larger restructuring plan following its recent Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. The company announced that it would shut down hundreds of underperforming locations across the country, including the Roseburg store. The challenges leading to bankruptcy include reduced foot traffic, growing competition from online retailers, and mounting debt and operating costs.
At the same time, Claire’s has reached a deal to sell much of its North American business to Ames Watson, a private equity firm. While the agreement could keep some stores open under new ownership, the Roseburg location is confirmed to close permanently on August 26.
Shoppers can expect clearance and liquidation sales as the store counts down its last days. Accessories, jewelry, piercing kits, and toys will likely be discounted. Ear piercing services will remain available until the final day, giving customers one last chance to experience a tradition many associate with Claire’s.
TWISTED STEEL RC HOBBY SHOP ANNOUNCES STORE CLOSING
The Roseburg Receiver

Twisted Steel RC Hobby Shop has announced that it will be closing its doors, according to multiple posts shared on the business’s official Facebook page.
In a statement to customers, the shop confirmed it is going out of business. Repairs already in progress are being completed, and warranty work is being addressed before the closure. Customers with store credits or gift certificates are being urged to use them as soon as possible, while those with special orders will either receive their products or a refund.
The shop has not set an exact closing date but says updates will be posted once more information becomes available.
A store closing blowout sale is scheduled to begin on Friday, August 22, 2025, with discounts of up to 50% off. Signs posted by the business note that all sales will be cash only, with no refunds or exchanges accepted.
Twisted Steel RC has been a fixture in the Roseburg hobby community, serving RC enthusiasts with products, repairs, and support. The news of its closure marks the end of an era for local hobbyists who relied on the shop for their RC needs.
