Roseburg Area Morning News
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY THROUGH EARLY TUESDAY
KQEN News Radio

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through early Tuesday morning for mountain areas in parts of southern Oregon.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service said snow is expected. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 16 inches are forecast, except up to 20 inches near Crater Lake. Winds will gust as high as 40 miles per hour.
The Advisory area includes the south central and southern Oregon Cascades north of Lake of the Woods, and the Siskiyou Mountains. It applies to Crater Lake National Park and the Cascade passes along highways 62, 138, 230 and 58.
Forecasters said travel could be difficult with slippery, snow covered roads and reduced visibility. Hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commutes.
Snowfall rates will be mostly one-half inch per hour but may be higher at times.
ROSEBURG SCHOOL DISTRICT CONTINUES TO EARN HIGH MARKS
KQEN News Radio

Roseburg School District received the highest assurance in its independent audit for the fiscal year 2023-24.
A district release said this demonstrates a commitment to financial transparency and accountability. This is the ninth year in a row that the district has received this recognition.
The audit, conducted by KDP Certified Public Accountants LLP, reflects a comprehensive review of the district’s financial operations and confirms compliance with state and federal regulations. The district received an “unmodified opinion”, the highest assurance level an audit can offer.
Superintendent Jared Cordon said, “Receiving an unmodified opinion shows the unwavering commitment of our district and School Board to using taxpayer dollars responsibly”.
The release said the Board of Directors received the audit report at its December 11th meeting. Community members are invited to review the completed report and annual budget on the district’s website: https://www.roseburg.k12.or.us/departments/business-operations/public-information.
Cordon said, “We remain focused on addressing the long-term challenges including the maintenance of aging school facilities, as well as navigating fluctuating enrollment numbers and unpredictable funding levels”. Cordon said, “Our financial planning reflects these priorities, ensuring that Roseburg schools remain a cornerstone of our community”.

HOYLE JOINS DELIVERING OUTSTANDING GOVERNMENT EFFICIENCY
KQEN News Radio

Last week, Congresswoman Val Hoyle joined the Delivering Outstanding Government Efficiency Caucus.
A release said that joining the caucus will ensure that working people, seniors and veterans have a champion in the room when Republicans propose cuts to the federal government.
Hoyle said, “The DOGE Caucus is a forum to discuss ways to find savings in the budget. Anyone who thinks there aren’t opportunities to make government more efficient and effective is not living in the real world”. “Hoyle said, “This isn’t a partisan issue. Whether it’s allowing Medicare to negotiate drug pricing or crack down on defense contractors who overcharge the Defense Department, we should come to the table with our list while also strongly standing firm on protecting the programs the American people reply on, like Social Security, Medicare, Veterans Service, the Postal Service, the FAA and so many more”.
The release said the DOGE acronym reflects different initiatives from the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans. The first is an unofficial advisory panel to the executive branch led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. The second is a new House Overnight Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency. The third is the DOGE Caucus. A caucus is a group of legislators with a shared interest in any given issue. Caucuses can hold educational events and activities, such as briefings, and can advocate for legislation.
Hoyle talked about the bi-partisan DOGE Caucus on Inside Douglas County Friday on News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN. That interview is a KQEN Podcast at www.541radio.com
