DOUGLAS COUNTY MORNING NEWS
LOCAL BUSINESS CLOSURE – COLORCRAFT PAINT

Colorcraft Paint, located next to the former Waldron’s Outdoor Sports on Garden Valley Boulevard, has closed its doors.
In a message shared publicly, Colorcraft thanked the community for being part of Roseburg for 70 years, saying they were saddened to see this chapter come to an end.
Colorcraft has long been a familiar name to generations of locals, serving contractors, painters, and homeowners across Douglas County. Its closure marks another longtime business leaving the Garden Valley area.
At this time, no additional details have been shared regarding the reason for the closure or future plans for the property.
We thank Colorcraft Paint for decades of service to the community and wish the owners, employees, and families all the best.
WIND ADVISORY FOR CENTRAL DOUGLAS COUNTY AND ITS EASTERN FOOTHILLS

A Wind Advisory remains in effect from 10:00 p.m. Tuesday through 10:00 am. Wednesday for central Douglas County and its eastern foothills, plus other adjacent areas in the region.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that a surface low pressure system is expected to pass through the area from late Tuesday through early Wednesday but exactly what path it takes is uncertain. This leads to a lot of variability as to how strong winds may be.
Southeast winds from 15 to 25 miles per hour are forecast with gusts up to 45 miles per hour in areas west of the Cascades. Roseburg should see winds to near 15 miles per hour with gusts as high as 20 miles per hour.
Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects, and a few power outages may result. Large inflatable holiday decorations will be blown about.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR MOUNTAIN AREAS

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday through 10:00 a.m. Wednesday for mountain areas in parts of southern Oregon.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service said the Advisory is for elevations above 5,500 feet in the Cascade Mountains and includes Crater Lake.
Winds are expected to gust as high as 60 miles per hour over high and exposed terrain. Wet snow is forecast above 5,500 feet with snow accumulations up to 6 inches. Winds combined with light snow will create hazardous conditions. The strongest winds are expected from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning.
Drivers should plan on slippery road conditions and delays in their commute. Strong winds could cause tree damage. Drivers should slow down and use caution while traveling. Visit www.tripcheck.com for the latest road information.
WATERMAIN BREAK ON WEST HARVARD AVENUE SATURDAY NIGHT

A watermain break at the intersection of West Harvard Avenue and West Umpqua Street on Saturday night caused a mess and the City of Roseburg is working to fix the situation.
Public Works Director Ryan Herinckx told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that a leak began just after 8:00 p.m. on a 12-inch diameter watermain. Herinckx said city crews were on site just before 9:00 p.m. and began to close system valves to get the water under control. Emergency locates were called in about 9:30 p.m. and utilities began to locate their utilities over the next two hours. Crews worked through the night to assess the situation and attempt to repair the watermain. Herinckx said they were not successful as the damage was larger than anticipated.
Businesses impacted by the water outage were temporarily connected to another part of the system and were back to having water service by 5:00 a.m. Sunday.
The right-hand lane of eastbound Harvard Avenue is closed at Umpqua Street and will remain closed until permanent repairs can be completed. Umpqua Street just south of Harvard will also remain closed for now.
Herinckx said there is no expected completion date for the repairs as the city is attempting to coordinate with a local contractor to assist in the repair effort.
Herinckx said this was an unexpected break to a water pipe that was installed in 1974 and well within its useful life. He said the break is unrelated to any of the work that took place on Harvard Avenue over this past summer.
ELECTRICAL FIRE CONTAINED IN ONE FROOM

An electrical fire was contained in one room of a residential structure on Sunday.
Information from the City of Roseburg Fire Department said just after 9:30 a.m. firefighters responded to the fire at a home on Northeast Russell Avenue. Cow Creek Tribal Police arrived on the scene before fire units and utilized an extinguisher to put out the fire. There was minimal damage. No residents were displaced from the home.
SHERIFF’S OFFICE TO PARTICIPATE IN ENHANCED DUII PATROLS

During the holiday season, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Oregon Impact to share the message about the dangers of drunk driving.
Undersheriff Brad O’Dell said the agencies want all drivers to remember a lifesaving message: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over. Undersheriff O’Dell said drivers will see deputies working together through January 1st to take drunk drivers off the roads. Deputies are specifically working overtime during the enforcement period with a focus of identifying and stopping impaired drivers. Funding for the enforcement is made possible through DUII enforcement grant dollars.
According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, before the pandemic in 2020 an average of 448 deaths and 1,739 serious injury crashes occurred on Oregon roadways. According to a June 2025 update by ODOT, post-pandemic numbers between 2021 and 2023 were described as alarming. Between 2021 and 2023, there were 1,789 deaths and 9,517 serious injuries reported. That is a 33 percent and an 82 percent increase respectively. On average, one person was killed in a drunk driving crash in 2020. Undersheriff O’Dell said this is DCSO is working together with NHTSA and OL to remind driers that drink driving is not only Illegal, but a matter of life and death.
Undersheriff O’Dell said, “It’s so important that drivers act responsibly, and that includes refraining from any impaired driving. The holidays are a special time of year for many, and we want community members to enjoy this season”. Undersheriff O’Dell said, “We need commitment from that they’ll keep the roads free of drunk drivers so that everyone can have a safe holiday. This enforcement period allows us to get the message out that drunk driving is illegal and will not be tolerated. Help us put an end to this senseless behavior”.
DCSO recommends these safe alternatives to drinking and driving:
*For those who have had one alcoholic beverage or more, designate a sober driver, plan to use a ride service, call a taxi and contact a sober friend to get home safely.
*Those who see a drunk driver on the road, should report them to law enforcement. This behavior could include swerving in the lane, inconsistent speeds, quick braking, excessive speeds, or careless driving
*Take the keys away from friends and family who are about to drive under the influence and make a plan to get them home safely.

ROSEBURG SCHOOLS INVITES COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO JON NEW COMMUNITY FACILITIES ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Roseburg Schools is inviting community members to join a new Community Facilities Advisory Committee.
A district release said committee members will take a close look at needs such as aging infrastructure, safety and security, student privacy and accessibility, improved quality and building systems that support student wellness, and learning space updates that reflect today’s instructional needs.
Superintendent Jared Cordon said, “We’ve had many conversations with our community about the condition of our schools and the challenges and opportunities we face”. Cordon said, “We’ve listened closely, to questions about affordability, to questions about priorities and the desire for more transparency and community involvement. This committee Is an opportunity to take a fresh community-centered look at where we are today, define where we need to go, and turn that vision into clear next steps”.
The release said the average age of schools in the district is around 76 years, and despite ongoing maintenance efforts, many buildings now require long-term solutions. In recent years, Roseburg Schools have invested more than $25 million in facility improvements. This includes approximately $18 million in grants, including competitive funding secured through careful planning and diligent work by district staff. These investments have supported seismic upgrades, safety improvements and critical infrastructure needs. As the district looks ahead, the scale and complexity of remaining facility needs make it important to engage the broader community in thoughtful discussion about long term solutions.
Committee members will meet from February through June of 2026. Meetings will take place at school sites across the district to provide participants with a firsthand look at both the strengths and challenges of Roseburg’s schools.
Meetings will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with refreshments provided. Those who apply are asked to commit to attending all the sessions. Potential facility tours will be scheduled at a later date.
Applications are being accepted through January 17th at: https://forms.gle/ujRnn3g5qiZTaVPd7. Hard-copy applications are available by contacting Executive Assistant Janet Kischel at 440-4014.
