WINTER STORM WARNING 1:00 P.M. WEDNESDAY TO 10:00 A.M. THURSDAY ABOVE 2,000 FEET

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 1:00 p.m. Wednesday to 10:00 a.m. Thursday for the eastern Douglas County foothills including Toketee Falls.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford said heavy snow is expected above 2,000 feet. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 6 inches at elevations between 2,000 and 3,000 feet, including portions of Highway 138E east of Steamboat. Also, 6 to 14 inches at elevations above 3,000 feet, including the back country. Winds gusting as high as 35 miles per hour over high and exposed terrain.


WINTER STORM WARNING MOUNTAIN AREAS FROM 4:00 P.M. TUESDAY THROUGH 10:00 A.M. THURSDAY

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through 10:00 a.m. Thursday for mountain areas in parts of southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford said heavy snow is expected above 3,500 feet from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning. Heavy snow is expected to resume from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 10 inches from Tuesday evening to Wednesday morning. Then an additional 8 to 20 inches in the Cascades and 3 to 8 inches in the Siskiyou Mountains Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning. Winds gusting as high as 50 miles per hour over high and exposed terrain during both events.

The Warning area includes the southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains including Diamond Lake, Crater Lake, Lake of the Woods, and Siskiyou Summit along with highways 138, 230, 140, 62 down to Union Creek, 66 and Interstate 5.

Forecasters said road or highway closures are possible. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. Those who must travel should keep an extra flashlight, food and water in their vehicle in case of an emergency. Call 511 or visit www.tripcheck.com for road information.


CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING CONTINUES THROUGH JANUARY 12TH

Roseburg Disposal is continuing its Christmas tree recycling program through next Monday, January 12th.

Free Christmas tree drop-off boxes are at several locations throughout the community. The Douglas County Landfill is partnering with the company to provide free disposal of the collected trees.

Christmas trees can be dropped off at:

  • Legion Field on Northwest Stewart Parkway
  • Northwest Kline Street in front of Hucrest Elementary School
  • The corner of Northwest Calkins Road and Northwest Cherry Street
  • Totem Market, on Northeast Stephens Street in Winchester
  • Sherm’s Thunderbird parking lot of Northwest Stewart Parkway
  • The corner of Northeast Fulton Street and Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard
  • Bobalou Billiards on Northeast Stephens Street
  • Southeast Rose Street near the former Safeway property
  • Redeemer’s Fellowship cinema parking lot in the 3000 block of West Harvard Avenue.

Only natural Christmas trees are accepted. Items not accepted include:

  • Ornaments
  • Lights
  • Tinsel or flocked trees
  • Plastic bags
  • Tree stands
  • Pet waste or any other garbage

MYRTLE CREEK CITY COUNCIL WITH TUESDAY EVENING MEETING

The Myrtle Creek City Council will have a Tuesday evening.

The agenda includes a discussion regarding the City Administrator position. Other items include:

  • Consideration of approving a collective bargaining agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers – which represents city staff
  • A vote on approving a three-year collective bargaining agreement with the Myrtle Creek Police Officers Association
  • Park Commission reappointments and
  • 2026 council goals selection

Other items are on the agenda as well.

The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the city council chambers on Northwest Pleasant Street.

PEACE AT HOME WITH 15TH ANNUAL EMPOWER EVENT

Peace at Home Advocacy Center has its 15th annual Empower Dance & Vocals Performance 2026 event coming up soon.

It will be held on Saturday, February 28th at 5:30 p.m. at Seven Feathers Casino Resort in Canyonville.

The evening will include a buffet dinner, local dance and local performances, honorary advocate awards and more. Attendees can support the work of Peace at Home during the paddle raising segment. Dancing will take place after the show. Guests must be aged 21 and over to attend. Cocktail attire is encouraged. Early bird tickets are now on sale.

A preview event will take place on February 21st at 5:30 p.m. at the Winston Community Center.

WILDLIFE SAFARI WITH DOUGLAS COUNTY APPRECIATION DAYS

Wildlife Safari will have Douglas County Appreciation Days on Sunday and Monday, January 17th and 18th.

Residents of the county will be able to enjoy the drive through for free on both of those days. Other benefits for the two days will include:

  • Buy one, get one 50 percent off encounters
  • Buy a Safari membership, and receive a free encounter
  • Buy one, get one 50 percent off plushies
  • 10 percent off retail products and meals in the restaurant

TICKETS ON SALE FOR SWEENEY TODD AT UACT

Umpqua Actors Community Theatre has tickets on sale now for its production of “Sweeney Todd – The Demon Barber of Fleet Street”.

Information on the infamous tale, said Sweeney Todd was an unjustly exiled barber, who returns to 19th century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which, he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett’s luck sharply shifts when Todd’s thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up…and the carnage has only just begun.

The production will be directed by UACT Executive Director Melody Schwegel. It will be on stage Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:00 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m. January 29th through February 15th. Tickets are $17 for adults.
