ROSEBURG HIGH TIES FOR THIRD HOTTEST DAY OF 2025 SO FAR

KQEN News Radio

Roseburg’s high temperature on Monday tied for the third hottest day of 2025 so far.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that the mercury reached 97 degrees at the Roseburg Regional Airport. That equaled the 97-degree high set on June 7th. The hottest day of the year to this point was June 9th, when it got to 101 degrees.

The Umpqua Valley will have a high about 10 degrees above normal on Tuesday, when it’s forecast to reach 92 degrees. The normal high temperature for this week is 81 degrees. The highs will drop to the low to mid 80s on Wednesday and stay there for a few days before getting back to around 90 degrees or above for several days beginning on Sunday.

ROSEBURG POLICE JAIL FUGITIVE EARLY MONDAY

KQEN News Radio

Roseburg Police jailed a fugitive early Monday.

An RPD report said at approximately 1:15 a.m. officers contacted the 64-year-old after observing her in a vehicle in the 1400 block of Northeast Stephens Street and being aware that there was a Cow Creek Tribal Police warrant for her arrest. The warrant was confirmed, and she was taken into custody without incident.

The woman was detained on $5,000 bail and was released later Monday.

DFPA INCREASES RESTRICTIONS TO HIGH, IFPL TO LEVEL 2

KQEN News Radio

The Douglas Forest Protective Association has increased Industrial Fire Precaution Levels to Level 2 on all lands protected by DFPA, which includes lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management.

Public Use Restrictions have increased to High for all private, county, state, and Bureau of Indians Affairs lands within the Douglas District, which imposes certain fire restrictions to help prevent wildfires.

DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said increased temperatures throughout the past weekend and predicted warm weather and lower relative humidity throughout this coming week have caused the drying of fuels and increased the fire danger to High. Pope said the potential to start a wildfire is high and the probability for it to spread is high as well.

Under IFPL2, the use of power-driven machinery in any operation area is unlawful unless such use takes place between 8:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. That includes:

  • Power saws, except power saws may operate at loading sites all day
  • Feller-bunchers with rotary head-saws
  • Cable-yarding
  • Blasting
  • Welding, cutting or grinding of metal

For the public: Non-industrial power saw usage, cutting, grinding, or welding of metal, cutting, trimming or mowing of dried, cured grass, power-driven machinery for non-industrial improvement or development on private property will only be allowed before 10:00 a.m. or after 8:00 p.m.

Complete fire season information is available at: www.dfpa.net

FIRE DANGER WILL INCREASE TO HIGH ON ODF SOUTHWEST OREGON DISTRICT

KQEN News Radio

The fire danger level on lands protected by the Oregon Department of Forestry Southwestern Oregon District will increase to high and the Industrial Fire Precaution Level will increase to Level 2 on Wednesday.

Public Information Officer Natalie Weber said this is due to consistent hot temperatures, dry vegetation and the threat of thunderstorms and unpreventable lightning-caused fire potential. Weber said this change affects 1.8 million acres of state, private, county and Bureau of Land Management lands in Jackson and Josephine counties.

The primary difference between current fire prevention restrictions and those beginning on Wednesday affects the public use of power-driven equipment, such as chainsaws, mowers, weed eaters and more. The use of power-driven equipment, grinding, cutting of metal and other spark-emitting equipment, such as wood splitters and generators, will be prohibited between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. daily. This does not apply to mowing green lawns.

HALF SHELL WITH NEW RULE FOR MINORS IN ATTENDANCE

KQEN News Radio

Music on the Half Shell has added a new rule regarding minors in attendance. Half Shell Committee President Clint Newell said effective now all minors near the concert area in Stewart Park must be accompanied by an adult parent or guardian. Newell said with the increasing number of minors in the area that seem to lack regard for the concerts or the patrons, adult supervision has become necessary due to the violence that has recently occurred.

Newell said it is regrettable to implement this change, but for now it is necessary. In a press release, Newell said Music on the Half Shell has a history of providing enjoyable concerts for everyone and will continue to due what it takes to deliver great experiences going forward.
