HALF SHELL FEATURES BLUEGRASS TUESDAY NIGHT
KQEN News Radio

Music on the Half Shell features bluegrass music on Tuesday night at the Nichol’s Band Shell in Roseburg’s Stewart Park. Seth Mulder & Midnight Run was born in the holler of Tennessee’s first legal moonshine distillery, where the spirit of tradition still runs strong. Since forming in 2018, the band has been on a mission to blend the roots of traditional bluegrass with the energy of a modern performance, crafting a sound that is both deeply authentic and refreshingly original.
Celebrating its 33rd year, Half Shell brings free concerts to the community thanks to dozens of sponsors – including businesses and individuals. Food trucks and vendors offer a wide variety of dinner options. Attendees are welcome to bring their own meal as well, along with wine or beer. Blankets and chairs can be put out in advance.
Music on the Half Shell begins at 7:00 p.m. Concerts will continue weekly through August 12th. More information is available at: www.halfshell.org
ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES CONTINUE, TIE FOR RECORD HIGH LOW
KQEN News Radio

Above normal temperatures continue through Friday in the Umpqua Valley.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that the high reached 97 degrees Monday at the Roseburg Regional Airport. That tied June 7th as the third hottest day of the year but was not a record high for the date.
Monday’s overnight low was 68 degrees. That tied the record high low for July 14th, set in 1935.
Highs should cool by several degrees on Tuesday before approaching the triple digits on Wednesday. High temperatures should drop to the mid to upper 80s for several days, beginning on Saturday.
HEAT ADVISORY CONTINUES THROUGH 8:00 P.M. WEDNESDAY
KQEN News Radio

A Heat Advisory continues through 8:00 p.m. Wednesday for central Douglas County and its eastern foothills.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford said high temperatures in the 90s to around 100 degrees are expected. Low temperatures will be mainly in the upper 50s to mid-60s.
The Advisory area includes the Umpqua Basin, Roseburg, Camas Valley, Elkton, Tiller and surrounding locations.
There is an increased chance of heat-related illness for those without access to cooling facilities. Warm overnight temperatures will limit relief from hot daytime conditions.
Forecasters said residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check-up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
COOLING RESOURCE CENTER EXTENDED THROUGH WEDNESDAY
KQEN News Radio

A Cooling Resource Center is being offered in the afternoons through Wednesday.
It is being held at St. George Episcopal Church at the corner of Southeast Cass Avenue and Southeast Main Street in Roseburg. The facility is open from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The center offers water, air-conditioned seating, cooling supplies, hygiene items and small snacks. It is being operated by church member Jacob Schlueter and his wife Courtney Greenwalt. Schlueter said help from more volunteers would be welcome. Those interested in helping can call 503-683-2389 or email: Jacob.schlueter@gmail.com.
The cooling center welcomes donations of food, water and other supplies for those in need. Donations can be dropped off at the church on weekdays between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

KQEN News Radio

Umpqua Health Alliance’s Community Advisory Council has awarded over $507,000 in funding to four community-led initiatives in Douglas County.
A UHA release said the selected projects focus on expanding access to childcare, youth development, public recreation, and workforce education.
The grants are part of Umpqua Health Alliance’s 2025 Community Health Improvement Plan, which supports strategies related to social determinants of health, behavioral health, nutrition, and services to children and families.
CEO Brett Eichman said, “Our commitment to community health begins with investing in the wellbeing of our youth, supporting families, and revitalizing the public spaces where we live, learn and connect”. Eichman said, “This funding is a promise to create expanded access, healthier and safer environments for every member of our community”.
The awards are:
- $72,650 for the South County YMCA After School Program led by the YMCA of Douglas County.
- $90,000 for a Youth Workforce Development Pilot led by the Boys & Girls Club of the Umpqua Valley
- $195,000 for a Stewart Park Revitalization Project led by Thrive Umpqua
- $150,000 for the Riddle Activity Center Playground led by Riddle Roots Community Projects.
The release said each of the funded projects was selected through a competitive process guided by UHA’s Community Advisory Council, composed of community members, local leaders and public health advocates.

H.O.P.E. DRUG COURT PARTICIPANT HELPS SAFE AT HOME PROGRAM
KQEN News Radio

A H.O.P.E. Drug Court participant has partnered with Safe at Home to provide assistance for needed items to help with the family reunification process.
Rachel Stauffer has launched a project aimed at supporting families in this effort. Stauffer said, “I chose this project in hopes to relieve the burden and help families that are child welfare involved connect during their reunification process”. Stauffer said, “This is important to me because in my experience the process was difficult to navigate. I hope to ease awkwardness and help families bond”.
Tina Temple, Safe at Home Program Manager said, “When Family Partner volunteers first meet the families and children they will provide support, it can be uncomfortable for everyone. Family Partners come in the family home and become part of the Child Welfare journey, and having small toys, games, or other activities helps children connect with the Family Partner”.
Items being collected to help create a positive, engaging family time include:
- Gas cards
- Books and board games
- Books and small toys
- Activity and coloring books
- Crayons and Play-Doh
- Outdoor games and bubbles
- Puzzles and craft supplies
- Sensory toys and stickers, and many more family-friendly items.
Donations can be dropped off at FARA on Southeast Main Street in downtown Roseburg and Red Robin on Northwest Stewart Parkway. Donations are accepted at both locations through July 30th.
