Project Skywatch: Roseburg’s New Eyes in the Sky for Wildfire Detection and Public Safety
The Roseburg Receiver

The Roseburg Receiver just announced Project Skywatch - a new effort to install a high-definition, 24/7 live camera and upgraded radio receivers at the top of Mount Nebo. This project will give the entire community real-time views across Douglas County, helping everyone spot wildfires, smoke, or other emergencies as soon as they start.

The goal is simple: give both residents and emergency responders instant, open access to the region’s skies and hills. In the future, the project will also feature AI-powered smoke detection to catch fires even faster. Plus, better radio equipment on the hill will mean clearer, more reliable emergency communications for everyone who depends on them.
To make this happen, The Roseburg Receiver is relying on support from local residents and businesses. Every dollar goes straight to equipment, installation, and ongoing service costs—no hidden fees, no profits. Full transparency is promised, with cost breakdowns and regular updates online.
If you want to help, donate or become a sponsor at roseburgscanner.com/project-skywatch, or follow updates at facebook.com/projectskywatchroseburgreceiver.
With your help, Project Skywatch will keep Roseburg safer, better informed, and more connected than ever.
NEAR RECORD HIGH TEMPERTURE FOR WEDNESDAY, THEN SOME COOLING
KQEN News Radio

Roseburg is expected to see a near record high temperature for the date on Wednesday, before some cooling begins to impact the Umpqua Valley.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that the high is forecast to be 99 degrees. The record high for July 16th is 104 degrees, set in 1941.
Forecasters said a weakening ridge of high pressure will bring afternoon highs down to the low 90s for Thursday and Friday. A deeper trough will bring cooler temperatures starting Saturday with highs dropping to the mid to upper 80s. That is close to normal or slightly below normal temperatures.
The mercury reached 91 degrees on Tuesday at the Roseburg Regional Airport.
HEAT ADVISORY THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING AT 8:00 P.M.
KQEN News Radio

A Heat Advisory continues through Wednesday evening at 8:00p.m. for central Douglas County and its eastern foothills.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford said high temperatures in the 90s to around 100 degrees are expected. Low temperatures will be mainly in the upper 50s to mid-60s.
The Advisory area includes the Umpqua Basin, Roseburg, Camas Valley, Elkton and Tiller.
Forecasters said an increased chance of heat related illness for those without access to cooling facilities is expected. Warm overnight temperatures will limit relief from hot daytime conditions.
Residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.

WYDEN, MERKLEY, COLLEAGUES PRESS TRUMP ADMINISTRATION ON IMMIGRATION HEARINGS
KQEN News Radio

On Tuesday, Oregon’s U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley and said they have joined a group of 21 Senate Democrats in pressing the Trump administration on its recent initiatives they claim are weaponizing immigration court hearings by terminating those cases and deporting people without due process.
In a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Immigration and Customs Enforcement Acting Director Todd Lyons, the senators these actions as an affront to constitutionally mandated due process. The lawmakers wrote: “We are extremely concerned by reports of a recent initiative to arrest and detain noncitizens at their immigration court hearings, and in many cases, dismiss their immigration cases without advance notice and while hiding the government’s intent to arrest them”.
The letter concluded, “This manipulation of existing laws to enact this Administration’s mass deportation agenda is creating chaos in our immigration system while doing nothing to make our communities safer”.
In addition to Wyden and Merkley, the letter was signed by 23 other Democratic Senators.
