ODOT WORKING ON WRONG WAY DRIVER MITIGATION PROJECT
KQEN News Radio

Contractors with the Oregon Department of Transportation are continuing work on the Southern Oregon Wrong Way Driver Mitigation Project.
An ODOT release said the project should improve safety along Interstate 5 by adding features that alert drivers when they enter an interchange off-ramp from the wrong direction. These enhancements include permanent signs, reflective pavement markings and flashing beacons. The project includes most ramps from Interstate 5 from the California border to the Curtin interchange.
Work has moved into Douglas County and will continue through mid-August. Drivers should watch for intermittent ramp closures on Monday nights through Friday mornings, from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Construction on each ramp will take about 4 to 6 hours. During ramp closures, drivers should watch for construction signs and electronic message boards. Freeway drivers are advised to use alternate routes, usually by traveling to the next interchange and turning around.
During the second phase, which is expected to begin in mid-August, the contractor will place warning signs along each interchange ramp, starting near the California border and working north to the Curtin area.
