ROSEBURG WITH NORMAL SEASONAL TEMPERATURES EXPECTED TO CONTINUE

KQEN News Radio

The Umpqua Valley will see normal seasonal temperatures continuing this week.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that afternoon highs will remain between the mid-80s and the low 90’s through Sunday. Forecasters said there is some concern regarding the potential for thunderstorms in far eastern Douglas County between Monday and Friday.

The high temperature was 85 degrees at the Roseburg Regional Airport on both Saturday and Sunday.

INVESTIGATION CONTINUES FOLLOWING TWO-VEHICLE WRECK

KQEN News Radio

Roseburg Police are continuing an investigation into a two-vehicle wreck on Thursday.

An RPD report released late Friday said just before 10:00 a.m. officers responded to the crash at the intersection of Northeast Stephens Street and Northeast Stewart Parkway. Witnesses and video surveillance disclosed that the driver of a sedan appeared to be speeding as he drove southbound on Northeast Stephens, in the left turn lane, and ran a red light before continuing to drive southbound and crashing head-on into another sedan, which was headed northbound on Northeast Stephens, and was attempting to turn left onto Northeast Stewart Parkway.

Both drivers were transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center. The driver who caused the wreck was later life-flighted to Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield for various injuries. The second driver sustained a broken ankle and was initially in critical condition for internal bleeding.

Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage with airbag deployments. Oregon State Police responded and conducted an accident reconstruction report. The southbound lanes of Northeast Stephens were closed for several hours. The vehicles were seized as evidence.

No further information has been released by RPD.

OSMB GRANT HELPS COUNTY COMPLETE REPAIRS AT EIGHT BOAT RAMPS

KQEN News Radio

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners, along with the county Parks Department, have announced the completion of repairs to eight county-owned boat ramps along the Umpqua River system.

A county release said the repairs were necessary due to damage sustained during the March 205 flood event. While crews were mobilized and onsite, the opportunity was also taken to complete some much-needed maintenance that had been previously postponed. Construction began in mid-June and was completed by the end of that month.
The work was done in partnership with the Oregon State Marine Board, which contributed nearly $65,000 to completing this work through their Boating Facility Grant program. The total cost of the repair project was nearly $93.,000. The grant from OSMB accounted for 70 percent, while the remaining 30 percent came from the County Parks Department budget.

Work was completed on the following county operated boat ramps:

  • Yellow Creek Recreation Area and County Park on Highway 138 about 20 minutes from Oakland
  • James Wood County Park on the Umpqua River 6 miles northwest of Umpqua
  • Umpqua Landing County Park in Umpqua
  • Colliding Rivers County Park on Highway 138E in Glide
  • Cleveland Rapids County Park about 10 miles northeast of Roseburg
  • Whistler’s Bend County Park and Campground off Highway 138E near Glide
  • Amacher County Park and Campground 6 miles north of Roseburg
  • Pickett County Park, about four minutes northeast of Canyonvill

Douglas County Commissioners recently highlighted the upgrades, renovations, and improvements made in the park system in the last ten years in a series titled, “A Decade of New Direction”. That document can be seen at the county’s website: www.douglascountygov/802/Parks
