ROSEBURG WITH SEASONAL NORMS THROUGH SATURDAY, HIGH PRESSURE COMING

The Umpqua Valley should see afternoon high temperatures in the seasonally normal range through Saturday, but warming will begin Sunday after high pressure begins to develop.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that the high pressure will lead to highs near 90 degrees on Sunday, heating up to the mid 90’s for Tuesday and Wednesday. Conditions should remain stable next week with highs in the 90s through at least Saturday.
The mercury hit 86 degrees at the Roseburg Regional Airport on Wednesday.
REP. HOYLE FILES FOUR AMENDMENTS TO BUDGET RECONCILIATION BILL
KQEN News Radio

On Wednesday, in the House Committee on Rules, Representative Val Hoyle filed four amendments to the Senate Republicans partisan version of the budget reconciliation bill that she claims are aimed to protect families and rural communities from the worst impacts of the legislation.
Her proposals include:
- Striking the Medicaid provider tax changes in the bill which she believes will otherwise push rural hospitals closer to the brink of closure
- Doubling the Pell Grant which will otherwise be significantly reduced
- Striking the language on timber revenue sharing which will otherwise cut counties out of their share of timber receipts and,
- Inserting language from the Wall Street Tax Act which provides an alternative way to fund government programs through enacting a 0.1 percent transaction tax on risky trades done by speculators on Wall Street.

ALL ODF DISTRICTS NOW IN FIRE SEASON
KQEN News Radio

As of this week, all Oregon Department of Forestry districts are in fire season.
An ODF release said this means that to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires, fire restrictions may be in place where residents live or plan to visit or recreate.
ODF Fire Protection Division Chief Michael Curran said, “We have already experienced several large fires in the state this year and anticipate fire behavior to be progressively more volatile”. Curran said, “Right now is the time to practice fire prevention and preparedness”.
As the Fourth of July and the holiday weekend approaches, the release said residents should remember that forests and fireworks do not mix. Private use of fireworks is not allowed on forest land, which includes all private lands protected by ODF and all other state and federal forest lands in Oregon.
To brush up on wildfire prevention knowledge ODF tips include:
- Know before you go. Campfires may be banned or only allowed in approved campgrounds. Make sure fires are cool to the touch before going to sleep or leaving a site
- Backyard debris burning either requires a burn permit during fire season or is prohibited altogether. Those who burned debris in the spring should check their burn site to make sure nothing reignites due to heat
- Don’t park vehicles or idle them over dried grass
- Don’t drag towing chains
- Check local restrictions and fire danger levels

PACIFIC POWER TAKING WILDFIRE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
KQEN News Radio

Due to elevated wildfire risk in parts of its service area, Pacific Power is taking additional safety precautions.
The utility has turned on enhanced safety settings and protective devices that will automatically de-energize power lines when debris, wildfire or strong winds contact the lines. Customers should expect more frequent and longer duration outages while these settings are in place.
According to Pacific Power, these measures will prevent wildfires from starting so customers’ patience is appreciated. To be prepared customers should:
- Plan ahead and be prepared year-round
- Create a plan with medical providers for appropriate backup power
- Review contact information and sign up for alerts
- Sign up for outage alerts by texting OUT to 722797
