ROSEBURG HAS FOURTH HOTTEST DAY OF 2025 ON MONDAY
KQEN News Radio

Roseburg had the fourth hottest day of 2025 on Monday.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that the mercury reached 96 degrees at the Roseburg Regional Airport. The hottest day of the year so far was June 9th when it got to 101 degrees. Highs of 100 degrees and 97 degrees were set on June 8th and June 7th respectively.
Roseburg is forecast to reach 92 degrees Tuesday before cooling to the mid 80’s on Wednesday and Thursday. Highs are back in the 90s starting on Friday and will remain there for at least 10 days.
MYRTLE CREEK MAN JAILED FOLLOWING STANDOFF ON MONDAY
KQEN News Radio

A Myrtle Creek man was jailed following a police standoff on Monday morning.
A Myrtle Creek Police report said at 7:25 a.m. officers responded to the 700 block of Northeast Cedar Avenue after a caller said damage had been found on a residence from gun shots. MCPD Detective Kevin Taggart said the person making the report believed his neighbor had shot the victim’s residence with a firearm sometime during the night. Taggart said officers arrived on scene and found evidence that someone had shot the home twice with a shotgun or firearm that shoots gun pellets.
While officers were on the scene investigating, 68-year-old Jay Wilson, who lives on that block, began yelling at officers from inside his residence. Taggart said officers had prior knowledge that Wilson was possibly heavily armed, and his behavior had recently become more erratic.
Officers began setting up a perimeter while a search warrant was being written for Wilson’s home. During that time, MCPD contacted the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and requested that their Tactical Response Team respond to execute the warrant, due to the risk the situation posed.
Taggart said MCPD also asked that Douglas County Communications alert nearby to shelter in place and avoid the area. Coffenberry Middle School and Myrtle Creek Elementary School are close by.
While officers were waiting for the search warrant, Wilson reportedly fired at least two rounds from inside the home. No one was hit and no officers returned fire.
Taggart said crisis negotiators from DCSO began trying to communicate with Wilson, but the suspect continued to remain agitated.
At approximately 10:07 a.m., Wilson exited his residence and began walking down the street. Officers rushed in and were able to take Wilson into custody without further incident.
Wilson was transported to the Douglas County Jail. He was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, recklessly endangering another person, and two counts of second-degree criminal mischief.
Taggart said Monday evening, a search warrant was executed on Wilson’s residence where 67 firearms were seized along with large amounts of ammunition. Officers allegedly found evidence of Wilson firing several rounds from a shotgun and handgun through his front door, windows, and the wall towards his neighbor’s house.
The Winston Police Department and Oregon State Police also assisted with the incident.

TEMPLIN BEACH PARK CLOSED TUESDAY
KQEN News Radio

Templin Beach Park is closed on Tuesday for additional flood cleanup.
A City of Roseburg release said the five-acre park providing access to the South Umpqua River will be closed according to Public Works Director Ryan Herinckx.
Herinckx said Parks and Recreation staff will continue cleaning the park following the flooding that took place on Sunday, March 16th. Tuesday, Public Works and Park staff will be using a backhoe, skid steer and mini excavator at the park.
Parks crews will trim trees and weeds, redo landscape planters and provide general cleanup. In addition, nonprofit Heartwood Resources will pick up wood rounds produced after a large tree that fell across a multi-use path during the storm was cut up.
Sitting near the intersection of Southeast Templin Avenue and Southeast Arizona Streets, Templin Beach Park contains a boat launch ramp, restrooms and parking. The adjacent Happy Trails Dog Park will be closed until later this month so a contractor can replace the 730 feet of fencing that was destroyed during the flood.
