HOTTEST DAY OF THE YEAR IN ROSEBURG, 4TH DAY IN A ROW
KQEN News Radio

It was the hottest day of the year in Roseburg for the 4th day in a row on Monday.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that the mercury reached 101 degrees at the Roseburg Regional Airport. The hot streak ramped up Friday when Roseburg hit 91 degrees, followed by high temperatures of 97 degrees on Saturday and 100 degrees on Sunday.
It’s never been hotter on June 9th in Roseburg as it was on Monday when the high shattered the previous record temperature of 94 degrees, set on that date in 2015.

MERKLEY, WYDEN, 38 SENATORS TO FIGHT CUTS TO JOB CORPS
KQEN News Radio

As the Trump Administration attempts to shutter the nation’s largest jobs training program for low income and at-risk young people, Oregon’s U.S. Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden have joined 38 Senate colleagues in demanding that U.S. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer reverse what they believe are the illegal and unconstitutional cuts to the Job Corps program.
A joint release said the cuts will harm students and communities in Oregon and across the country.
The letter said, “The Administration’s decision to illegally and abruptly terminate Jobs Corps center operations has left 25,000 students and thousands of staff across 99 Job Corps centers in the lurch”. The letter continued, “The sudden ‘pause” of operations at Job Corps centers puts young people’s lives at risk, especially a significant number of students who were experiencing homelessness before arriving to the program. Local communities will pay a steep price, especially the thousands of individuals who work at the centers and will lose their livelihoods”.
The release said that for more than 60 years, Jobs Corps has helped millions of young people in rural communities and cities alike to finish high school, learn technical skills and get good paying jobs while providing stable housing, medical and mental health care, and other supportive services. Late last month, the Trump administration indefinitely ‘paused’ operations at Job Corps cites across the country. However, a federal judge has since blocked the pause, leaving the Job Corps programs with a reprieve, but not certainty about their future.

ELMERS KITCHEN * BREAKFAST * BRUNCH * MIMOSAS IS OPEN
KQEN News Radio

Elmer’s Kitchen * Breakfast * Brunch * Mimosas is open at its new Roseburg location.
The restaurant re-opened on Monday and will be open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The new site is at 3030 Northwest Aviation Drive, which was formerly home to Shari’s Café and Pies.
Elmer’s previously operated in Roseburg for 24 years on Northwest Mulholland Drive before closing last August due to the franchise operator’s retirement and the redevelopment of the original property. The new restaurant is company owned and is only a short distance north of the former site.
Elmer’s Vice President Jill Ramos said the company has hired between 30 and 40 staff. On Friday and Saturday, Elmers was open for an invitation-only preview event, which also served to provide additional staff training.
